Just curious. There seem to be tons of expanded, bootleg, and out-of-print film scores floating around on CD-R. Know of any places that might have some from past or current television shows? There's a few I'd love to have. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Just to name a few:

"The Adventures of Brisco County Jr."
    "Cobra"
    "L.A. Heat"
    "The Pretender"
"Walker, Texas Ranger" (there was supposed to be one, but it got cancelled)
    "Nash Bridges"
    "18 Wheels of Justice"

    Any suggestions?

I thought at one time I heard of a bootleg or promo for Brisco County Jr. but I could be mistaken. I have not heard of any bootlegs for the others but I will keep my eye open for them.

Well, I have a bootleg of Beck's scoring for a good bit of the first two years of BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER. Good stuff. If you'd like, I can "burn" one for you - no cost, just give a few weeks to find the time. My living arrangements are changing & I owe some stuff to some of the other fine people here.....

Thanks for the offer, but with all due respect, I don't find the music from BUFFY even slightly interesting. But thanks for asking anyway.

Mark, look at dantoris' choices. Why would he want to listen to GOOD music?!? dantoris, you may be a little biased against the Buffy show (which, until this year, was a great show) because of it's "alterna-rock sountrack" album, but it actually has some of the best TV music that's been composed in years. You should give it a try sometime.

Okay, Shaun. Here we go. Just you and me. One man will walk away.

Do I have to like everything everybody else does? Certainly not. I like what I like, and you like what you like. It's as simple as that. I don't have anything against BUFFY because of its "alternative rock" sound. I just don't find it very entertaining, aside form perhaps a few cues now and then. I may not like what you do, but don't bash me just because of that. I certainly haven't done it to you.

    dantoris,
I wasn't really bashing you (well, I guess I was), but I'll say again that Buffy's music is FAR better than any of those scores listed. Christophe Beck has shown us time and again how great he would be composing for the big screen (more often, that is). I highly doubt that there would be any significant music in Walker, Texas Ranger (seems as though all CBS shows have really cheesy music). If you would just LISTEN to this Buffy music, there's so much more to like here. Soft piano themes, BIG action music, lighthearted comic scoring. It's all here.

One little sidenote regarding the Buffy music: I noticed a bootleg of Beck's music on eBay, but it didn't look anything like the version I have. For one thing, it featured dialogue and another thing, it didn't even have as much music as was on Beck's promo. Weird. I guess what I'm trying to say is that it's one thing to have a bootleg of a score that's not available, but it's another to have a bootleg of something that's already available (though not as readily). The eBay bootleg of Buffy features really cheap artwork and no track listings (to my knowledge). So, more than likely, it's just a rip-off of Beck's promo. All right, I'm writing too much already.

Sorry, dantoris. Listen to Buffy. You'll like it.

    Shaun

Tv boots are harder to find because of how few come out on DVD, the source for most boots. The existing Buffy promo features Beck's music from the second season and was issued by his agency when Beck was up for "Best Music" (which he won) a few years ago.

Beck is also scoring episodes of the Practice and Angel. He has also picked up some movie gigs. I know they made fun of Walker fans (The Zeppo), but they only did it once.

You might want to contact Sonic Images and let them know what you would like to have released.

Mark, forgive my tangent but do you have anything else - anything rare that would merit a CD-R?

"Buffy the Vampire Slayer" better than "Brisco County Jr."?? I don't think so. Aside from Voyager, Brisco's rousing western theme is one of the last good T.V. themes that there has been. In my opinion, television series scores are not as good as they used to be. Remember the "A-Team" scores?

It's not that I hate the new alternative sound that can be found in "Buffy". It's just that I believe Mark Isham is currently composing better contemporary scores for T.V. series.

Nashbridges.com has wav files of both the original and current theme songs. I do agree with Al that there is a lack of quality themes for current shows.

Brisco County's theme (though it's been a few years since the show's been on) was just a rip-off of Silvestri's "Back To The Future III" western theme. That's how I remember it.

I have been to nashbridges.com. I actually have both opening credit themes saved on my computer. I love Elia Cmiral's the best.

Shaun - "Brisco County Jr." may sound similar (if you really really critique it), but it's it's own theme. Give it another listen (if you can) this Saturday - or any Saturday, for that mater - at 10:00AM on TNT.
