I just got an CDR of Graeme Revell's rejected score to The 13th Warrior "AKA - Eaters of the Dead" and was wondering if someone can please post the track listing for it? I could also use the cover art,if any exists as well.

    Thanks very much.

I'd love to hear the score also, where did you find it, if you don't mind telling?

Speak up awready! I despair of ever seeing McTiernan's actual cut of the picture, but the album might give us a clue.

Man! am I the only one who has heard it? It seems like I have gotten an million replies asking that.

Anyway, I got it in an trade I just did. IIRC, you can get an copy from The Majestyk Score Archive,
    http://majestyx.8m.com/scores/

Well here is my thoughts of it.

The sound quality is very good. As for the music itself, I personally think as music, it's fine. Though for the soundtrack for that
film it's trash, well it's not that bad. However within the context of the
movie, I can see why it was rejected.

Anyone who likes Graeme Revell's past work should like it just fine. So if you
have the opportunity to get it from an trade or really cheap, than do so. Just don't think it might be better than Jerry Goldsmith's version or sound anything remotely like it, because it doesn't. Though I think it still is okay.

    I hope that helps.

    Regards,
    Sean Robert Abbey

    No Problem!

Personally I would love to see this disc get released legitimately. But who knows, maybe I am the only one.

Hey Sabbey, I can sympathsize with you a bit on this subject of rejected scores since I've heard more than a few since I've been collecting. Although I haven't heard this one, I'd like to hear it for the sake of hearing and getting an idea of McTiernan's original vision for this D.O.A film. I recently had a similar experience with Randy Newman's rejected score to Air Force One. While it has it's moments, I can see why it was rejected. As Wolfgang Petersen said bout it, "It's too mickey mousey". While there are some really good ones like Goldsmith's Two Days In The Valley, Bernstein's Last Man Standing, Zimmer's K2 and Silvestri's Mission Impossible. that are certainly worth getting.

Zimmer's K2 score being rejected is among the DUMBEST I know of. God, did anyone really think Chaz Jankel was going to come up with something better? Does anyone think he did?

If you read the end credits to K2, you'll find they retained one of Zimmer's cues, for the death of the Asian character, as I recall. Not sure where it fits on the Varese CD (assuming they PUT that bit on the CD).

I actually agree with you Rocco on K2. It's a shame that it got rejected. But I actually think that Chaz Jankel did an admirable job rescoring the film. His score is nowhere near Zimmer's but it's a really good score nonetheless. I love the End Credits suite at the end very romantic. As far as the piece that Zimmer got credit for "Takani's Death", I think you hear it briefly in the Ascent suite. I can't remember where though but i'm sure it's there. K2 is definetly worth picking up.

Zimmer's score appeared in the Eupropean version of K2...but was thought to be "too loud" for the American version. Jankel's music sounds like a subdued Zimmer...go figure...I agree that it's American rejection is a travesty...but can anyone say "Legend?"

    Legend....There you go Joe!

I saw the film on it's original release with Goldsmith score intact, though their was some of Scott's music meddling in one sequence which used a track from Jerry's Psycho II!

When they show the film on terrestrial T.V. here in England, It's always the damned Tangerine Dream version, odd eh?!, I have to say that I do like the 'Dream' score though.......just not as much as Jerry's!!

And I remember that and again thank you JJH!

The c.d. is called ON THE LAST FRONTIER it's on ONDINE ODE 921-2

It's my personal favorite of the 4 Rautavaara albums I have, and plays like a dark side of Vaughan Williams pastoral music!

    Happy hunting pal!

    *Warning* Old thread being resurrected!!!!

You know something.....this score is awesome

Just thought it'd share that. I don't know how you guys come up with titles for rejected scores, but I would love to see some for this someday. I have the 10min. cue running through my head, that string ostinato is the best thing Revell's done
I imagine this music is for the fire dragon sequence.

    Cd of the week!

Every attempt to contact Tom Scofield has failed.

H Rocco and I both tried to get in touch with him and he hasn't been heard from since the FSM board went down the first time. There have been public appeals for him to contact anyone and let us know if he is alright. All in vain

He is either not intrested in contacting anyone on a public forum or (I hope not) not with us anymore.

I had asked about this quite some time ago as well. Unfortunately, there are no track listings for this score. Well, at least of an official nature.

Since, the current version of the film is a different edit to what Revell's music was to support, I'd assume it wouldn't be possible to make up a listing that would work. Though, it might be possible someone has!
