PORTRAIT OF A LADY is a gorgeous score, specialy if you consider it was writen for such a boring and stupid movie. I also had the chance to listen to a score Kilar wrote for an european animated movie and must say it's outstanding.

Kilar's the man for LOTR, no doubt about it!

N.P.: BICENTENIAL MAN **/***** (wonderful score IF you never heard BRAVEHEART, DEEP IMPACT, PROJECT X, FIEVEL, LAND BEFORE TIME, etc etc etc...)

HORNER is an absolute joke.If he composes for THE LORD OF THE RINGS he will ruin the movie.
But i guess PETER JACKSON is clever enough not to include this dead loss!!!!

    Hey KYP!!
I can't believe that you compare JERRY GOLDSMITH with HORNER.I'm sure that your favourite score is the TITANIC and the only
GOLDSMITH stuff you have ever heard is FIRST CONTACT and AIR FORCE ONE.Listen to some good film music man.

Kilar will surprise us. Even *I* could probably write the exact score I already know Horner would write.

After all, who knew Leonard Rosenman was perfect for the previous LOTR? I wouldn't have picked him in a million years. (Did you know that the original double LP -- actually there were two versions, one a pair of picture discs, one not -- I've got em both -- was one of the bestselling soundtracks of all time? Although the sound was awful, but Intrada fixed that later. I could hardly believe what I'd been missing in that one.)

NP: THE OTHER (Goldsmith) (just ended)

    Hi Marian old pal,

I shall have to get the Marco Polo recording, is it the original or a re-recording?

I also suggest checking out WOJCIECH KILAR:FILM MUSIC (Extracts from original soundtracks selected by the composer), Excellent c.d. showing the mans versatility!
All the scores here are for Polish films, it's on OLYMPIA OCD 602.

    NP : As said above

Timmer: It's a great re-recording. Unfortunately, the songs are missing, but the theme can be heard in one of the chase cues.

It is at least ridiculus to say that FIRST CONTACT is the reflection of the career of a composer like Goldsmith. The man has a career with highpoints like PLANET OF THE APES, THE SAND PEBBLES, THE PAPILLON, STAR TREK, CHINATOWN, POLTERGEIST, UNDER FIRE... That's the point.I don't think that my answer was insulting.
