Alright! This should be awesome... well, at least that's what I'm trying to gear myself up to believe. I'm still upset about the issue with David. =(

I agree, I wish Arnold was scoring it. Well at least we can expect a good score from Williams.

Did I miss a step? Are Emmerich and Devlin mad at Arnold for some reason, or vice versa?

Great news !!!! Although my first choice would have been Arnold. But as usual I am sure John will do a great job composing!!

PS... does anyone know what David Arnold's working on now???

Ford, you're LYING *again* on the REAL source. The "report made by soundtrackmag.com several weeks ago" was, in fact, based on the previous RUMOR posted by FILMFORCE.

FilmForce doesn't confirm 'your' report, but THEIR OWN rumors.

I'm afraid Robert you are mistaken.

SOUNDTRACKMAG.COM broke the story about John Williams FIRST, it was then picked up on by Glen Oliver at filmforce.com.

SOUNDTRACKMAG.COM was also broke the story about David Arnold not scoring the project as well.

Here is the URL for their first story http://filmforce.ign.com/news/94.html
And if you have any doubts you can email Mr. Oliver at filmforce.net and he'll confirm that soundtrackmag.com was their source.

I hope this clears up your confusion on the issue.

    Regards

    Ford A. Thaxton

My name is not Robert, it's Ricard, and according to the site, Soundtrackmag.com provided the info about Arnold leaving the project, but NOT about Williams scoring it.

    Hmmm,
all I can say is that I am delighted that Williams is scoring this. Although I like Arnold a lot, Williams just happens to be my favorite composer.

okay, what the hell is this movie about?

no doubt another special effects flick with terrible writing?

It appears to be an American Revolutionary War story -- which, given the presences of Emmerich and the dreaded Dean Devlin, no doubt means it DOES sport terrible writing.

The movie is Braveheart with powdered wigs

I am excited to see Williams on this project. Maybe Speilberg will get Arnold to do his next flick Just a little bit of swinging composer swaping.

Well, since Arnold isn't doing it, at least it is Williams and not someone like Rabin. A Revolutionary War movie needs a period piece music and how better then the meastro?

The American Revolution is an area still ripe for exploration by film makers. Unfortunately, with those two at the helm, it will probably be as lousey, illiterate and stupid as their previous projects.

All too damnably likely, Thomas. (Was it Roger Ebert, Vincent Canby or someone else who said that the vile Hugh Hudson's vile picture REVOLUTION set back the cause and concept of a good Revolutionary War picture by decades? I don't think the evil twins I mentioned above are going to improve the cause.)

NP: MASADA (Jerry somebody) (not Fielding either)

Henry, we must have some ESP mind-link going on. I almost added virtually the samed damned remark about the "evil twins" setting back the cause another ten years. Pretty spooky...

Much as I respect Arnold as a film composer, surely no filmmaker could ask for more than John Williams. Perhaps to some, previous Emmerich/Devlin projects haven’t amounted to anything more than ‘eye candy’……though I certainly enjoyed GODZILLA…..but I’m keeping an open mind on THE PATRIOT. It’s a great subject….and as Tom Scofield says….has been somewhat neglected in the past. Word has it that the producers of THE PATRIOT have gone to great lengths in an attempt to recreate historical events accurately…..whether they have indeed followed the advice of the historians…..only time will tell. Whatever, the movie promises to be entertaining….another chance for Mel to have a go at the English…..well, this time the British as a whole.

No doubt Williams music will be something to contemplate.

Heh, I hadn't thought about the "Mel going at the British" aspect of the picture, or indeed, of much of his very career, from GALLIPOLI on forward.

Sometimes a filmmaker surprises you; Emmerich can be semi-competent from a technical point of view, and anyone should be encouraged to stretch (although in Emmerich's case, the first encouragement he needs is to stretch for TALENT.)

As for Williams, he must have very specific reasons for taking this picture -- as he seems to have for whatever rare assignment he DOES accept -- and even if I wind up hating THE PATRIOT, I have little doubt Williams will provide a splendid score.

NP: my mother has a local TV broadcast of BED OF ROSES on -- really maddening, syrupy Horneresque score -- Cliff Eidelman? -- but we need the background noise, I guess.

If Ebert or Canby hate it, it must be frikking great. Hudson's Revolution rocks, blazing poetry. Griffith meets Pontecorvo with David Bailey fashion photography! Flic plays like a dream, with some of the most stunning bits of epic filmmaking since Mann and Kubrick. It works as expressionistic fever dream telescoping the important people, events scrambling the brain in a random bloody blur. Pacino's single performance as an action hero. He too was a fan of this film, along with Page Cook and John Pym, and sponsored the 3 hour restoration cut for MOMA in 1993. John Corigliano's score was among the last of the great hardcore symphonic scores before they went out of fashion-- did you know the album was mastered and set to ship until RCA reneged? It's just sitting there, somewhere.

    REVOLUTION is a great score.

He needs to do more movie scorees. He obviously has a talent for it, if you've heard Altered States and Red Violin
