    Great topic,

and hoo, am I gonna get into deep trouble with this one; anywya, I always wanted Williams to score Batman and would have loved to see Goldsmith do Nightmare on Elm Street.

It would be interesting to see what Batman would have been like scored by Shirley Walker(don't laugh).

    Other choices:

    Home Alone(David Newman)
    Ed Wood(Danny Elfman)
As Good as it Gets(John Ottman)

Please note that I like the existing scores for the films listed; this is just wishful thinking.

Scores I like, but would be interesed in what these people could have done:

Joel McNeely - the "Star Wars" movies
    Shirley Walker - "Batman"
    Jerry Goldsmith - "Soldier"/"The Rock"/"Ronin"
John Barry - "GoldenEye"/"Tomorrow Never Dies"/"The World Is Not Enough"

I also would like to see what "The Blair Witch Project" would be like with a really good (is there any other kind) John Carpenter score.

    - Star Trek II (Jerry Goldsmith)
    - Robocop 2 (Basil Poledouris)
    - Titanic (John Barry or George Fenton)
    - Jurassic Park 3 (if there has to be one then Jame Newton Howard)
    - Braveheart (John Scott or Patrick Doyle)
    - Terminator 1 & 2 (Jerry Goldsmith)

These others are strictly out of curiosity for what these composers might have done with the same movie... not that there is ANYTHING wrong with the scores that exist.

    - Star Trek:TMP (John Williams)
    - Jurassic Park (Jerry Goldsmith)
    - Poltergeist (Bernard Herrmann)
    - Basic Instinct (John Williams)
    - Dances with Wolves (John Scott)
    - Schindler's List (Jerry Goldsmith)

HAL 2000, I love the idea of Herrmann doing POLTERGEIST. There is really only 3 movies I would have loved to have seen some else score:

SUPERMAN II (John Williams) I would love to see how he expanded his themes and material from the first movie

    STAR TREK GENERATIONS (Jerry Goldsmith)

TITANIC (John Williams) In a book about the making of Titanic, James Cameron states that he wanted John Williams to score the movie, But somehow it ended up in Horner's hands.

    as an after thought:

PATRIOT GAMES and CLEAR AND PRESENT DANGER (Basil Poledouris or Hans Zimmer)

    Mark,
I didn't know that about Titanic. Intersting. Gosh, what Williams would have done to that movie, I can't even begin to imagine. Oh well, Horner's score wasn't too bad.

STAR WARS (Jerry Goldsmith) (producer Gary Kurtz said that they did consider him)

(but in this one case it's VERY clear that they certainly made the right decision -- all I mean is, wouldn't it be interesting?)

NP: ANNA AND THE KING (George Fenton) is coming to an end ... the music gets more intense as the album rolls along, I'm observing

    Hmmmmmm......

Any of the last three STAR TREK movies, scored by either Basil Poledouris or Elmer Bernstein. Both are capable of profound drama and lyric beauty. Why Bernstein, who has so capably scored so many classic westerns, would NOT be called upon to score a "space western" is beyond me. As to Basil P.; think RED OCTOBER/CONAN/FLIGHT OF THE INTRUDER. Bummer.

Don't get me wrong - I both enjoy & own Goldsmith's scores for FIRST CONTACT and INSURRECTION. However (as was noted on a thread a while back, elsewhere), it may be time for some new blood in this flagging series. Sorry, Jeron!

Woulda been neat to see what Elfman might have done with the Burton SUPERMAN LIVES score, too.

    NP: SUPERMAN 2CD 5/5*

How about Goldsmith scoring SORCERER with Roy Schieder? Now that would be something.

Also, has anybody here ever seen a movie called DARK OF THE SUN, from about 1968, with Rod Taylor? Awesome movie, but has one of the worst scores ever written. I think Goldsmith would do a fantastic job re-scoring that flick. And since the music in the film is either really low or plays over montages with no other sounds, I'm actually making a new copy that has much better music, using from my collection: THE POSTMAN, U.S. MARSHALS, SOLDIER, JAWS, SUDDEN DEATH, among others.

    Fantasy list time??

    How about.....

    Ben-Hur : John Williams

    King Kong : Basil Poledoris

    Spellbound : John Barry

7th voyage of Sinbad : Jerry Golsmith

    Lost Horizon : James Horner

Day the Earth Stood Still : Elmer Bernstein

All the above would be composed at the hieght of said composers power, i.e. the late 60's Barry who did OHMSS,Deadfall, the Horner who did KRULL, the Goldsmith who did The Wind and the Lion etc etc....!

Oh, and Tom, DAVID WHITAKER.....Brilliant, what an underused talent in an industry full of too many talentless hacks!
I would love to have his full score to Dr.Jeckyl and Sister Hyde!
