Before I start, I just wanted to note that I know that it's "mix tape". I've just always called mine "Mick's".

What's on your latest Mick's Tapes?

Another little sidenote: Before this tape, I had been making CDR mixes. Unfortunately, some motherf***er stole my CD player from my car, so I'm back to tapes. This will help explain some of the "old" selections on the tape.

    MICK'S TAPE---THE RETURN
    November 12, 1999

    SIDE ONE
    1. Remembering Chet (I like to start out with something calm before the storm begins)
    2. Main Title (The Black Hole)
    3. Trinity Infinity (The Matrix)
    4. (whatever track 4 on The Island is called; the print is too small on my art that I can't read it)
    5. Scorpio's Theme (Dirty Harry; my tapes always get a little eclectic in the first third)
    6. Snow Job (A View To A Kill)
    7. Thugs (Batman: Mask Of The Phantasm; short lil' cue)
    8. Close Call (Lake Placid)
    9. Escape And Pursuit (100 Rifles; wish I had a horse)
    10. Night Boarders (The Mummy)
    11. No Delusion (Total Recall; great cue)
    12. Motorcycle Chase (Escape From L.A.; this cue just does it for me, I don't know why)
    13. Ice Bandits (The World Is Not Enough; noisy score, but great to drive to)
    14. President Speech (Armageddon)
    15. Certain Death (The Mummy)
    16. Futile Escape (Outbreak)
    17. Morton (Once Upon A Time In The West)
    18. The Gunslinger (Westworld)
    19. A Dusty Death (Contract On Cherry Street)
    20. Escape From Torture (Rambo)

(man, it's more eclectic than I thought; there's some in there for all to enjoy)

    SIDE TWO
    1. The Horns Of Hell (13th Warrior; great beginning of Side Two track)
    2. The Cave (Revell's 13th Warrior; I don't really even like this cue, so I have no idea why I put it on here)
    3. Commissioner Castration (Fight Club; this was my favorite cue at the time)
    4. The Divorce (Total Recall)
    5. Subway Showdown (The Matrix)
    6. Breakout (Breakout)
    7. The Sand Volcano (film version, with the escape music preceeding the stuff that's on the Mummy album)
    8. The MiGs (AFO; McNeely)
    9. Bullet Train (Silvestri's Mission: Impossible)
    10. Neo Runs (The Matrix)
    11. Mother Wendol's Cave (13th Warrior)
    12. Duel Of The Fates (The Phallic Menace)
    13. The Chase (Sleepy Hollow)
(then this tape grinds to a halt; my mistake)
    14. Jane Eyre Theme (Williams)
    15. The Ride To Dubno (Taras Bulba; Michael, I love the Gerhardt version more than the Ryko rerecording)
    16. End Title (Alien Resurrection)

So ends THAT tape! The new one is coming up!

    Shaun

    MICK'S TAPE
    The Return Of The Return
    February 11, 2000

(not final; hasn't been made, but this'll probably be the final version)

    SIDE ONE
    1. Main Titles (Thomas Crown Affair; annoying at first, but I started to like it after a while; just the piano stuff, not the rest of the score)
    2. Sleepy Hollow (Main Title)
    3. Trickin' Along (Cherry Street)
    4. Dead Already (American Beauty)
    5. Hardest Geometry Problem In The World (film version; Rushmore)
    6. Six Rivers To Cross (Oscar And Lucinda)
    7. Panzer Attack (Medal Of Honor)
    8. Escape From Naboo/The Heroics Of R2-D2
    9. Attacking AFO (McNeely cue)
    10. Guinvere's Abduction (First Knight)
    11. The Cave (Ravenous; great score)
    12. Helicopter Rescue (The Cassandra Crossing)
    13. Engine Trouble (Black Sunday)
    14. Mayhem On The Rooftop (The Fugitive)
    15. Punishment (The Green Mile; beautiful piano theme from Thomas Newman)
    16. Men Don't Leave---track 7
    17. The Vagrant (figured it'd be a good end for side one)

    SIDE TWO
    1. The Bad Death Of Edward Delacroix
    2. Mental Boy (another beauty of a piano theme, this time from American Beauty)
    3. The Bridge (The Reincarnation Of Peter Proud; this track creeps me out, but this is the kind of cue I like to hear when I'm driving; I think it's track 13 on the Soundtrack Library "release"; haunting piano)
    4. My Favorite Plague (more Mummy)
    5. Rjuken Sabotage (Medal Of Honor)
    6. (was Augie's Rescue, but this will probably be "Helicopter Rescue" from Superman now)
    7. The Bird Flies (A Bug's Life; just recently got into this cue; really exciting)
    8. Plane vs. Mummy (MORE MUMMY!)
    9. Wrong Way (Ronin; more great driving music, but it's out of place on this tape)
    10. Ethar's Final Battle (Young Sherlock Holmes)
    11. Theme From Angela's Ashes
    12. Prince Rupert's Drop (Oscar And Lucinda)

What do you guys think? Send in your tapes!

    Shaun

I haven't made a tape for my own consumption in quite a while. I did drive around L.A. listening to old Mickses of my own creation, but never did design one just for that purpose.

I remember that "The Prestige" (Ry Cooder, JOHNNY HANDSOME) was on it, as well as a big cue from Alex North's DRAGONSLAYER (the hero invades the dragon's lair). The instrumental version of Michael Kamen's LETHAL WEAPON was on it (the Erich Kunzel-conducted version) as well as Kunzel's suite of TV themes (including MAN FROM UNCLE and HAWAII 5-0).

I've produced a lot of film music tapes as Xmas and birthday presents for my mother, over the years. The early ones were almost entirely Goldsmith (being my favorite and also the heaviest part of my collection at any given time), but I've discovered she has soft spots for Williams and Rachel Portman as well. I rather like some of the cuts I've done -- a nice EMMA suite, a nice ROSEWOOD suite, a really TERRIFIC suite from FACE/OFF. And so on.

I owe tapes to a couple of people at the Board as we speak ... I'll send em soon, fellows, I promise. The problem is called "cash flow." Friday at the latest.

Well, I haven't made any tapes, but several cd compilations. I have a few different series of cd's I've done actually. Vol 1&2 of Movie Themes, Vol 1&2 of Action Cues, and a Horror Music cd. They are all 70 + min. I can post tracks later. They're at home.

Well, I don't mix tapes anymore. Since I usually buy at least one new score a week and often three or four, I copy them to tape and listen to them. My rule is that I will listen to every cd at least twice at home and twice in the car, whether I like it or not. After that, they go to the shelf if I am not too impressed with them. If I love them I listen to them as often as I want in the car or at home. Eventually I'll have to make room for the new arrivals in the car though.

Anyway, that's me ole' crazy self.

Got a CDR-burner for Christmas and quickly made my very first compilation:

"Music From The Films Of MICHAEL DUDIKOFF"

And call me crazy, but I'm currently in the middle of making a new GALAXY QUEST CD. I'm writting a short synopsis of a story involving the crew's first mission into space, and plan to "score" it using music from the actual GALAXY QUEST CD, and perhaps a little bit of THE PHANTOM, as the two scores sound somewhat similar in some areas. Yeah, yeah - I'm wasting my time making a CD with music I've already got on another CD, but who cares? I'm doing it anyway.

It is growing increasingly apparent that I will have to get a burner. What do they go for these days?

    Hey Rocco,
Is that trumpet you refer to part of the love theme in "The Sand Volcano"? Because, if it is, I just recently started to LOVE that trumpet. Someone ice skated to it last week and though she was really bad (apologies to her family), that trumpet really stood out to me. I don't know why I never listened to the whole cue before.

That very trumpet, yes. Curiously, it was only recently that I realized how long "The Sand Volcano" actually lasts -- I thought the lovely end-credits music had been left off the album! Impatience will rob you of treats, won't it.

I usually make my own composer compilations because I can't carry all 500 + scores in my car and continually swap them out.

I recently made a pretty good Poledouris compilation (if I do say so myself).

    1. opening track of Cherry 2000
    2. Two cuts from Robocop 3
    3.
    4. FedNet March (St Troopers)
    5. Klendathu Drop (St Troopers)
    6. Under Siege 2 (trumpet fanfare that opens disc)
    7. Wind
    8. Conan Anvil of Crom (awesome, esp. after the peacefulness of Wind)
    9. Conan -- Wifeing Theme
    10. Conan - Atlantean Sword
    11. Farewell to the King -- Battle Montage
    12. Flesh + Blood -- Denouement
    13. Quigley Down Under
    14. Quigley -- The Attack
    15. Blue Lagoon
    16. Lonesome Dove
    17. It's My Party (should have swapped the last twp tracks, oh well)
    18. Lassie
    19. For Love of the Game, Main Titles
    20. Hymn to Red October
    21. Jungle Book, Main Title
    22. Shere Khan Attacks, from Jungle Book
    23. Final fanfare of Cherry 2000 (no track name)

75 minutes of pure Poledouris power

Oh, I am the master of mixes!!!
My mixes usually tell some sort of story
i.e. a tape of Christmas musci tells the college story of being away during the holiday season and all the craziness of the end of the semester and finally the return home
Or I have several different Halloween Mixes "Evil Music III" was the latest.
I made a CD for someone who I recently fell in and out of love with chronicling from our first meeting till the (umm) "determining of how our relationship should be"
I did a great Mix with all of the James Bond/Drum & Bass music on it.
I get very precise so that all the cues flow - sometimes I will even put them in realtive Keys
it is a way for me to relase all of my obsesive compulsive tendencies so that I dont develop a disorder
