    For Immediate Release

RAZZIES® ANNOUNCE WORST IN FILM NOMINEES FOR 1999, THE 90's -
    AND THE CENTURY!

Some of Hollywood's biggest money winners of 1999 were also the biggest losers in the eyes of the Razzies, as the Golden Raspberry Awards Foundation annouced its nominees for the Razzie Awards, dis-honoring the Worst Films of 1999.

Three of the biggest money-makers of the year, Adam Sandler's "Big Daddy", The Ultra-Low Budget thriller "The Blair Witch Project" and George Lucas' pointless prequel, "Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace", received nods for Worst Picture of the Year, while box-office bomb "Wild Wild West" and the un-haunting "The Haunting" rounded out the list. "Wild Wild West" and "Star Wars Episode I" received eight nominations each, including nods for Kevin Kline (as Worst Actor, Supporting Actress, AND Worst Screen Couple), George Lucas (as Worst Director and Screenwriter), and the computer-animated character Jar-Jar Binks (as Worst Supporting Actor and Worst New Star).

Other notable nominees included Salma Hayek for her supporting roles in "Dogma" and "Wild Wild West", Kevin Costner for his leading roles in "Message in a Bottle" and "For Love of the Game", Catherine Zeta-Jones for her roles in "Entrapment" and "The Haunting", and newcomer Heather Donahue for her unscripted ramblings in "The
    Blair Witch Project".

Celebrating two decades as Tinseltown's Tackiest Anti-Awards Show, The Golden Raspberry Award Foundation traditionally announces its nominees for its Razzie(r) Awards 24 hours before "that other awards show". This year, in addition to its normal categories (Worst Picture, Worst Actor, Worst Actress, Worst Screen Couple, etc.) the Razzies will include four Special Awards, dis-honoring the Worst Picture and Worst New Star of The Decade, and in "The Ultimate Dis-Honor", Worst Actor and Actress of The Century.

Among the Worst Films of the Decade are: "An Alan Smithee Film: Burn, Hollywood, Burn!", "Hudson Hawk", Kevin Costner's "The Postman", "Striptease" and "Showgirls". Worst Actor of the Century nominees include Kevin Costner, The Artist Formerly Known as Prince, William Shatner, Pauly Shore and All-Time Razzie Champion Sylvester Stallone, while Worst Actress of The Century nominees include Elizabeth Berkley, Bo Derek, Madonna, Brooke Shields and Pia Zadora.

A complete list of nominees in all 12 Razzie categories is included with this press release.

"Winners" of the Razzie Awards (though in this case, that may not be the word!) will be announced in a tongue-in-cheek ceremony scheduled for 8pm/PST on Saturday, March 25th in The Academy Room of the fabled Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel - 24 hours before "That Other Award Show".

Nominations were determined by mailing ballots to more than 450 G.R.A.F. members (film fans, film journalistsand film professionals) in 34 US states and eight foreign countries. The actual Razzie Award, a gold-spray-painted plastic raspberry atop a mangled Super 8 film reel, now has an inflation-adjusted estimated street value of about $4.27.

The public is invited to vote for the Worst Films of the Century for the upcoming "100 Films, 100 Stinkers" poll, to be announced later this year. The ballot is available exclusively on our web site at http://www.razzies.com.

The Razzies were founded in 1980 by John Wilson, a UCLA Film School graduate and author of "Everything I Know I Learned At The Movies".

Razzies.com is one of the more heavily trafficked humorous destinations on the internet, and was created and produced by Dave Kalin and DK Digital Media.

This mockery of an award is a complete waste of time and effort. It is insulting to film fans, and to those who put forth a effort into their art. For what may be considered a grand joke, the punchline sadly fizzles, being good for nothing more than a chuckle in passing.

Precisely; and not the least of my irritations with the Razzie people over the years is that they never quite hit the right nail on the head. (Whence this obsession with Sofia Coppola, of all people? How many people even noticed she was IN THE PHANTOM MENACE?)

No Worst Score nominees this year, I see. All manner of luminaries have been up for that one.

NP: THE MUMMY (a likely Worst Score nominee if they'd bothered this year)

I find the Razzie Awards much more serious than the Oscar. At least they always chose it right, except for "Showgilrs" which was a great movie. I believe the Razzie voter didn't get the movie tough.

    Very funy stuff.

I used to enjoy the Razzies, but in recent years they have begun to do more mainstream mockery instead of how they used to do it (they'd actually find films that were very deserving of the awards... B-movies and such). Full Moon and Troma Films are still in full production, and their movies deserve a lot more of these awards than what they have actually "nominated."

What a pity that Deep Blue Sea was completely overlooked in the Worst Picture category. If The Haunting were any good, this wouldn't have happened.

And Molly Shannon(Superstar)was passed over as Worst New Star? FOUL!

Any idea what happened to the Worst Score Category, and who were the nominees from those years?

I'd say Wing Commander was one of the worst movies I've ever seen. The Phantom Menace turned out to be the best part of my $6.

Oh yeah, also Virus (shudder), and Big Daddy.
