I can safely say that John Williams usually leave us with memorable themes from great movies. Besides Williams, what other memorable themes that come across your mind that is composed by other composers? Just a few to mention here:1. James Bond Theme (Monty Norman)
2. Mission: Impossible (Lalo Schriffin)
3. Star Trek (Jerry Goldsmith)
4. The Rock (Hans Zimmer, at least it is memorable to me!)posted 02-14-2000 05:35 AM PT (US)

Batman,
Gone With the Wind
Dr. Zhivago
Ben Hur
The Magnificent Seven
Titanic (this one is for Matt)
Psycho
Supergirl
North by Northwest
Vertigo
TaxiThere are many more, but the ones I've listed are memorable to even non-moviemucic lovers (I think)

Some more:
- Dragonheart (Edelman)
- Much Ado About Nothing (Doyle)
- Captain Blood (Korngold); one of my favourite main themes!
- The Lord of the Rings (Rosenman); I actually remember whistling that theme when I was about 12 years old. I had just discovered the movie, been watching it every day and wasn't at home for about a week (hollidays). I had the theme in my head the whole week long. I didn't have any interest in film or classical music at all at that time, but later, when I had discovered film music, I remembered the LOTR score and picked it up soon. Recently got the remastered release. One of my top favourite scores, without a doubt.

The theme that I can never ever seem to get out of my head is Elmer Bernstein's theme for Stripes. It is very memorable.Other Memorable themes are:
Bad Boys (Mark Mancina)
The Cowboys (John Williams)
Total Recall (Jerry Goldsmith)
Terminator (Brad Fiedel)
City Slickers (Marc Shaiman)
The Big Country (Jerome Moross)
And I can never get Harold Faltermeyer's theme from Kuffs out of my head either.Audacity

Sorry to inform you, but when I talk of "memorable themes" I think of themes that non-film score afficianados would recognize, or be able to hum to you. Since Williams came on to the scene there have only been three:
Star Trek
Batman
Titanic
before that, Dr. Zhivago, Psycho and The Twilight Zone, The Good the Bad and the Ugly, and James Bond and Mission Impossible themes stand out to people.
I mean, sorry Jeron, but I ask you to go out and ask the average guy to hum Rudy or Galaxy Quest. That doesnt mean that those arent kick ass scores that we all love to death - but who else but us her would reacognize them? Same goes for a lot of the other suggestions - . The General Population wouldnt recognize any more themes than that -I bet most people couldnt hum you all of the ones that I listed. If we are talking about themes that WE would recognize, this would be a moot question wouldnt it? I mean, if we are talking about memorable themes that "I" think of personally then I could just mail you the list of my collection. I mean, they are all memorable to me otherwise I wouldnt buy them right?
what do you think?
NP - oh gosh, I dont recognize this music

Man on Fire by John Scott--shattering burst of triumph and regretLionheart (1991) by John Scott-- shattering burst of triumphant victory over the chaos broiling within
"The Apology" from Inchon by Jerry Goldsmith, also undercore for George C. Scott and Claire Bloom in Islands in the Stream, "Robert and Blanche" from Lionheart (1987), The Sand Pebbles, a whole bunch more-- few composers ever understood how to write to intimate communication between men and women as much as Goldsmith does, again and again. You'd have to refer back to North, Rozsa, David Raksin.
