As I'm sure everybody has more than one taste of music, I'm just curious as to what you all listen to when you're not playing scores.Me, I'm an Oldies person. I like Sam Cooke, Beatles, Beach Boys, Creedence, and a million other Oldies by people I've never even heard of, as well as some country, like Garth Brooks and especially Trisha Yearwood. Basically, I can listen to anything that's not rap or heavy metal.
So, anybody care to pitch in?

Film music is my primary musical preference, as that's all I listen to, period... BUT, on occasion I do listen to BSB, N*Sync, LFO, Britney Spears, Shania Twain, Tim McGraw, Brian McKnight... as well as some other Christian stuff (which I don't mind at all). =)***NOTE: I am usually subjected to this, and for the most part do not listen to this by choice. That's the problem w/ having a cousin in the house w/ opposite musical preferences. He's beginning to appreciate film music more, and well... I'm trying to be fair by doing him the same. I won't be converting though.............

Musically, I'm almost open to anything, though I can stand only so much country. Along with film music, in the past I've listened to jazz, rap, R&B, rock, etc., but I only occasionally listen to any of those now. Ultimately, if it sounds good, I'll pay attention. However, when something like jazz is integrated in to a film score, that is simply awesome!Besides film music, classical music would probably be the other genre I listen and pay attention to the most today. There's some fantastic material there...

mostly clasical music with an emphasis on Bruckner, Mahler, and contemporary composers like Corigliano and Part to name two.I also like U2's music a lot. Love scouring the web for mp3s of old live recordings, and getting them onto CD -- not that I have too many.

Other music I like to listen to........hmmmmgood topic.
I like what you could call "symphonoc rock" like Yes (and all their incarnations), ELO, Asia (my favorite), Alan Parsons, Journey, Duran Duran, Pet Shop Boys, and, of course, one of the greatest musicians of our times, Weird Al Yankovic! (snicker, snicker).
But I also listen to just about anything, except country. (However, Shania Twain rocks!)Just my 2 cents.

I love rock, blues, jazz and R&B.I tend to go for more of the classics such as The Beatles,Led Zeppelin,B.B. King,Buddy Holly, etc. But I also enjoy a number of more recent artists such as Metallica and Dave Matthews Band.I really can't tolerate rap,hip-hop,country,pop or heavy metal.I just can't get into those types of music.

I started out listening to film and classical music, augmented by pop & rock heard on the radio (early 70's), and didn't really get into "popular music" until jr. high. Tended to go to extremes - liked The Beatles, Pink Floyd (post DSOM) -- and Ted Nugent! Started to expand my taste in high school, when I was introduced to punk (Sex Pistols) by a friend.I'm open to almost anything now - my tastes tend to shift every so often. Now, most of my "popular" music is almost as 'obscure' as my interest in film music -- Guadalcanal Diary, House of Freaks, Kelly Hogan/The Jody Grind, Ed's Redeeming Qualities, Stan Ridgway/Wall of Voodoo, The Billy Nayer Show, Dieselhed, Nashville Pussy... too many others to name that not a lot of people have heard of.
I've a liking for 'alternative' country, and have developed a taste for surf & garage bands, also.

The vast majority of my CD collection consists of (and I mostly listen to) what is generally considered "classical" music. Depending on my mood, it can be really anything, from Bach or Vivaldi all the way to rather modern composers such as Boulez or Messiaen. Whatever I consider "good" music. (Well, obviously I consider it "good"... why else would I listen to it?)My interest in film scores grew basically out of my interest in contemporary classical composers and their music (and the fact that I like a lot of movies)... a lot of good stuff gets written for movies, and I cannot watch a movie without noticing its score. There are quite a few film scores in my CD collection.
Basically, I was already listening to a lot of classical music before I bought my first film score, but then again, I started listening to music rather early.

I also enjoy some good jazz music, and even rock/pop at times, though considerably less (I like just about everything Peter Gabriel does).

Hello all,im new to this board...i used to hang out on the FSM board....anyway....
I listen mostly to 80's music (im 23) as i consider it to be the most prolific decade for music novelty. The 90s really sucked in comparaison. (IMHO)
These include, but are not limited to, The Pet shop boys, Duran Duran, Depeche mode, Marillion, U2, New order, The KLF, St Etienne (more of a 90s band but with roots in the 80s).
But it think 50% of my music listening time is reserved to filmscores.

My tastes run about 3/4 classical, 1/4 film music. In the classical area, I range widely; favorite composers of 1999 were Mozart, Herbert Howells, Elgar, Bruckner, and Bach. I've tended recently to focus on the organ, symphonic, and string quartet repertoires, with varying success (Messiaen's organ music, for instance, was rather a failure by me, whereas Mahler's symphonies still thrill).

sabbey - Good to seem I'm not alone in liking Huey Lewis. I'll take them over any of those teen "sensations" any day of the week. These guys have been around since the early 80s (and are still going strong), proving once and for all that good, old-fashioned rock & roll will ALWAYS prevail over crap music like Backstreet Boys, N Sync, and Britney.

I will listen to anything. I haven't found a genre of music yet that I don't love. What I listen to at any given moment is solely based on my mood. Interestingly enough, when I was younger (16, I am now 21), my music preferences were much narrower, consisting almost entirely of movie scores. Over the past five years, however, my appreciation of other types of music has grown.

Huge rock fan here...Metallica, Bush, Goldfinger, Stone Temple Pilots, Smashing Pumkins, Juliana Hatfield, Greenday, The Offspring, Stabbing Westward, and Joe Satriani grace my CD shelves.I'm a HUGE Queen and Bealtes fan.
Also like some mid-90's pop/rockish stars like Natalie Merchant (or 10,000 Maniacs), Alanis Morrisette, Seal, Jewel, Counting Crows, Blues Traveller, TLC, etc. Nice music, all of it.
Big on ethnic (mostly Celtic) music as well, such as Enya, Clannad Lorena McKennitt, and Enigma.
Jazz--Incognito, Macy Gray, Richard Elliott, Keiko Matsui and some earlier Big Band artists like Duke Ellington grace my shelves.
Classical - Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, and Wagner are my prime choices. I Also like Vivaldi. I'm mostly into the Baroque period though.
I guess thats it for me. A nice over-all variety if I do say so myself.
I also like Simon & Garfunkel, Yanni, and other softer music.
Music I hate, teenage music like Jerone mentioned (sorry dude, but there's just so much better stuff out there
), Hip-Hop Rap Crap, and Country. As a whole I think I have about 270 CD's, only half of which are soundtracks

Ohhh and I can't forget my fetish for 80's music!!
