    tricky question.

Id say, in my mediocre filmmusic experience (4 years), the rarest scores (on CD) are :

    1) Tokyo BlackOut (Maurice Jarre)
    2) Hocus Pocus
    3) SPFM Tribute
    4) Cherry 2000
    5) Mulan Promo

    Cheers

Hmm, I have all those but HOCUS POCUS. Not too shoddy. I'd add Goldsmith's RUNAWAY to that list, as well as a bizarre Japanese rerecording entitled CINEMA CONCERTO, which included themes from EMPIRE OF THE SUN, TAKE A HARD RIDE, and one of Mario Nascimbene's sword-and-dinosaur flicks. Among many others.

Also the Varese CD of POLTERGEIST II -- I hear it exists -- one record producer told me to my face that that was the one he owned (this was before the Intrada expanded version) -- but I've never seen one.

Does the HOCUS POCUS disc include the song by James Horner?

    H Rocco-

To answer your question about HOCUS POCUS, no Sarah's theme is unfortunately not on the disc.

    Audacity,

I don't know if Shipwrecked was ever released as a cd, but I have the tape. Wouldn't mind having the cd either. Try the Disney store, that's where I got the cd from. I'll continue looking as well. Hopefully we find it. Awsome score.

    Scott

    NP:Howard Hanson / Symphony No.2, "Romantic"

Well, many of the scores listed I actually have, or have seen out there, or have seen others who have them. The one disc I have which I have NEVER seen anywhere for purchase or ever seen anyone else who has it is...
CHILD'S PLAY. It's an out of print Italian release. Maybe someone else out there has one or has seen it, but I never have.

I've seen the CHILD'S PLAY CD in person, but didn't nab it, I didn't care for the score and had no idea it'd be such a collector's item ...

I will grant you that H. Rocco, it's not that great of a score, but I got it because of it's rarity. I also got it in a trade, so no money. That makes it a little easier.

Scott: Shipwrecked was released on CD.

    H. Rocco: I not only saw a Varese CD of "Poltergeist II," I bought it. I found it in Hong Kong. I brought it back to the Bay Area and showed it to Douglass Fake at Intrada who asked if I would swap it for an Intrada label copy. I agreed. But I can confirm they exist in Asia!

As for other rarities -- Knights of the Round Table is pretty rare. Rarer still is the Varese Club 4-CD Herrmann set, although virtually all of the music on those CDs is availabe on other labels in the same performances.

Anyone know what the newest version of the CD guide (the one the guys at FSM put out) claims as the most valuable???

    Ron

    Hey folks
Greece is a great place to search for rare CDs.I can easily find POLTERGEIST II and CHILD'S PLAY(wich is a French release by MILAN FRANCE).
There is also a great possibility that anyone can find the extremelly rare MUERTRES EN 3 DIMENSIONS wich is the original film soundtrack for the FRIDAY THE 13th movies.
It is for sure one of the most difficult to obtain soundtrack and it was released in MILAN FRANCE.I'd also add some George Delerue CDs such as CHUANS!, an obscure French release wich i think it was canceled and withdrawn from the French stores.
The MULAN promo is one of the most expensive CDs but i believe it is very easy to be found. The fact that you must pay about 200$ to own it is another topic for discussion.
Also some MORRICONE CDs wich were released in Europe like DIMENTICARE PALERMO, TEMPO DI UCCIDERE and most of all... I PROMESSI SPOSI wich i found in a tiny Rome CD store!!
Has anyone seen HENRY MANCINI'S full film music discography box set from Japan?
As a friend of mine told me he saw it in TOWER store in London 6 years ago.It was a luxurious and beautifull huge sized box with the entire MANCINI film music releases (about 10 CDs)like THE GREAT RACE, TWO FOR THE ROAD, SUNFLOWER, GRAND PRIX!!!!!
I'd also like to mention the Japanese CINCINATTI KID and Varese's THE SERPENT AND THE RAINBOW.

I'm picking my brain over these long-lost items:

STAR WARS - THE EWOK ADVENTURES (Bernstein/Williams, Singapore label)

    M SQUAD (Spanish RCA release)

    SUPERMAN 2 + 3 (Japanese release)

And I cannot seem to find Williams' FLUTE AND VIOLIN CONCERTO (from Varese) anywhere, along with the first two volumes of Waxman's LEGENDS OF HOLLYWOOD compilation!

Murder in the First seems to be pretty rare these days, though it pops up on eBay semi-regularly.
Took me a long time to find it.

I also can't seem to find Delerue's London Sessions Volume 1.

Where's Top Gun!? I want the various cues of the Top Gun theme (without solo guitar during the opening scene on the carrier deck) and the cue when Goose is lifted into the helicopter. I have "Memories" on the expanded edition cd, but it's not enough. The original recordings must exist somewhere!! There's not even a bootleg? I'd also love the instrumental version of "Mighty Wings." It's perfect when playing flight sims.

It seems the rarity of some CDs depends on where youre situated geographically.

For example, "Friday the 13th", "Childs Play" and "Psycho II" are quite easy finds for me.

I still think Tokyo Blackout and I Promessi Spossi are the two rarest CDs ever. In 5 years, ive only seen them once, and bought them in each instances. Ive never seen them on any Internet sale, nor in any specialists' movie music shop.

    Bridges on Madison County??
I'd love to know more about this one, is one of the finest movies I ever saw.

Shipwrecked does exists and it's boring as expensive. I sold it few weeks ago.

    I still can't find Superman 2 & 3 and dave Grusin's Electric Horseman, though!!

Speaking of King Kong...I read over on Doug Adams's LOTR music blog that Howard Shore is planning on releasing a collection of some of his personal compositions (which don't all necessarily have to do with film scores) and that at least some of his work for Kong might be included.

As my old friend Dr. Bob Smith would say "darn it, they ruined the value of these CDs they weren't supposed to reissue." He also said that about some of the old LPs.

So many of them have been reissued and re-released now and brand new fuller editions that the older lists are all pretty much obsolete. I suspect Bob will do another update before long, if he has the time.

Many on your lists are the same ones I'd put on there. I am fortunate to have most of the ones I wanted and have gotten just about all eventually for decent prices.

One of my good contacts has gotten me several of those Intrada and Varese club issues that sold out so fast. And he sold them to me for the same prices, even though they were all sold out.

Speaking of that Wolfman score by Elfman, that I just ordered, its a great score. One of his best. It has that great gypsy theme in there and some great action cues. Reminds me of some older scores.
