So, I got my new FSM release in the mail today: THE FLIM-FLAM MAN coupled with A GIRL NAMED SOONER. I haven't heard the latter -- haven't even gotten that far along in the disc yet -- but the expanded FLIM-FLAM MAN is WELL worth it! The suite on the old SPFM Tribute CD turns out just to be the skim off the top! There's WONDERFUL stuff on this disc that the SPFM didn't have space to use. I remember at the SPFM banquet itself, overhearing someone say "I was going to come to this just to get the music from FLIM-FLAM MAN." I felt the same way about getting the music from MAGIC that was also on the disc -- but now I know how that fellow felt. This is GREAT STUFF.Anybody else get theirs yet? Comments please!

I agree wholeheartedly with you about Flim Flam Man -- wonderful to hear it all finally -- and also about Magic. Maybe there's an FSM full score release there!A Girl Named Sooner is terrific, a warm, rich score that suffers not at all for being in mono, because of the great sound quality. As suggested in the FSM blurb on the website, it is indeed similar in style and themes to Goldsmith's score for Raggedy Man. I really love the "young" Jerry Goldsmith, and would recommend also that you pick up (if you have not done so already) the Tsunami disc, Flim Flam Man/Studs Lonigan -- for the latter. Studs Lonigan is melodic, moody and highly enjoyable. This disc also has the best sounding version of the original (Goldsmith) Stagecoach score, far superior to the Mainstream LP and CD releases. These are not the actual original tracks (FSM has given us the only release of those, with disappointing sound quality), but the rerecording of the score that was issued as the "soundtrack" when the film was released. Strange that Tsunami was able to come up with a better source tape than the company that released it originally! I also recommend the Tsunami release of 'The Stripper' (no relation to the pop record released in the early 60's) -- it's another early Goldsmith score from a William Inge play that was translated to film in the early 60's. Nice stuff! For those most familiar with the "later" Goldsmith, these scores are quite fresh sounding and eclectic.

I do have THE STRIPPER, coupled with THE TRAVELLING EXECUTIONER -- a splendid pair, much in the same genre as the others we're discussing in this thread. EXECUTIONER, a nearly forgotten film, has one of Goldsmith's more adorably lunatic scores of the period. And THE STRIPPER -- his first big-screen collaboration with director Franklin J. Schaffner -- is another remarkable piece of work.I've long since finished my first listen of the entire FSM album, and GIRL NAMED SOONER is just as lovely as expected. I hope more of Goldsmith's neglected TV scores get the deluxe treatment. I hear POLICE STORY is in the works at Prometheus, so we're off to a good start.

Why is it that when I go to the FSM CD Catalog, I can't seem to find a listing for Rio Conchos or Flim-Flam Man / A Girl Named Sooner?Jeron

Probably due to the whole site's being in disarray since they've changed servers. I'm hoping they'll iron everything out by Monday.
