Alright folks, it doesn't look like Kamen will be scoring 102 Dalmations... David Newman will! Personally, this is awesome news to me.

I've officially added David to my list of top composers, as I've loved his score for Anastasia ever since the film came out... but have only really begun to get a feel for his style and abilities when comparing Anastasia with Galaxy Quest. So, as you can guess... I'm still a David Newman newbie. Can anyone make some suggestions for me? Has anyone heard Hoffa? He IS definitely my favorite NEWMAN of the three (referring back to a post a couple of weeks ago).

Ah well, just figured you guys would like to know about 102. Let's look forward to a fun, thematic score w/ plenty of David's trademark choir included! Hopefully there will be a release... (come on, Disney!)

HOFFA is a fantastic score. Very serious with a huge orchestra. The Hoffa theme is incredibly memorable. The rest of the score is quite dark and old-fashioned sounding.

Here's a few more I'd recommend if you can find them:

BOWFINGER was pretty cool in a jazzy, James Taylor Quartet kind of way. The finale in great, too.

MATILDA, another DeVito collaboration, is one of his best scores. It's got all the trademark Newman motifs turned up to 11... the offbeat OTT offbalance orchestrals that sound like they're going to burst, the choir and the simple understated melody.

THE PHANTOM is a great heroic score. Big action music!!!

THE FLINTSTONES is worth searching out, even if it is only the 6min track on the commercial release. Lots of energy.

BILL AND TED'S EXCLELLENT ADVENTURE/BOGUS JOURNEY -- both great scores. Dramatic, exciting and lots of fun.

WAR OF THE ROSES, operatic and classical with a great sense of humour.

Y'know, this makes me wonder why so few people visited my thread at Movie Composers.

Jingle All the Way has fine action music, and a stellar theme, which brings me to a question. Does ANYONE know how long the two tracks are on TVT's alleged soundtrack?

I also love the nostalgia and heart of The Sandlot.

Steve, which of those scores is readily available. When you tell me to check them out, I'm ready to go find them on the net and purchase them. I trust David Newman's style enough now to take that risk. I'm sure whatever he has done I will enjoy.

You know there is another Newmann score. An excellent one. I think it was with Bill Murray or perhaps Belushi. It was a baseball flick, kind of. I had the score on tape a while back am looking for it on cd. It's from Varese. Awsome score. Just thougth about it now. Gotta look for it.

I'd much rather Newman was replacing Kamen on X-Men!!

Steve, thanks! and Timmer - ha! That's not a bad idea!! Actually, I hadn't considered him as an "X-Men" candidate... but hey, I'm sure it would definitely be cool! I'm now looking forward to any and all David Newman projects!

Ah well, not like there's much we can do now. I'm confident Kamen will pull through w/ a good score. If not, it's not the end of the world. Not my world, at least.

I'm not sure how to react. I'm extremely disappointed that Kamen won't be doing the score, yet at the same time I am incredibly delighted that David Newman will be doing it.

    An update to that list...

I've noticed that the major online retailers like Amazon and CdNow no longer list THE PHANTOM. Apparently, it's just gone out of print. Find it quick, Jeron, it's a great score!

    Hey Scott,

It sounds like you are thinking of Mr. Destiny. I think it might be OOP. However I think either Amazon or CDNOW still has it listed for sale.
