Hey, anybody know if a soundtrack for this will be available? Goldsmith's doing it and it's an action thriller with (for what he's worth) Ben Affleck.
The trailer is awesome and it looks enetertaining. If anybody has any information, then "throw me a frickin' bone, here."

    Now, Widescreen,
I can see where you might think that Goldsmith was still working on it (the theatrical trailers still carry Goldsmith's name, but Waterworld's trailer---among others--had Isham's name on it and he didn't end up scoring the film on that one, either). The TV trailers have Silvestri's name attached. Trust me. I wanted Goldsmith on it. Too bad for me (well, us).

Another thing: The Internet Movie Database is not the "end all" for information regarding upcoming releases. Without getting into more ridiculous examples (see all the Indy and Star Wars films listed, and Brian De Palma's recent filmography), Fight Club had Howard Shore's name on it even AFTER the film had come out with a Dust Brothers score. It took my friend's constant emailing (and they're "double checking" of the facts) to get them to change THAT.

    Shaun, et. al,

Thanks for the info, and Silvestri's just as interesting choice. I do not take much stock in what is to come, because the film industry changes at a breathless pace. I just wanted Goldsmith on it enough that I was prepared to prematurely call it official, my mistake, I apologize.

So Shaun, your comments at to the validity of the IMDB or how composer changes happen all the time are not necessary to explain to me, but it certainly does serve as a good reminder that there are no absolutes. Thanks. Now, anybody know if there'll be a score release?

Hey Widescreen you might wanna check the database again because it has Alan Silvestri listed as the composer. So that ends that. It's damn shame that Goldsmith couldn't score it, it would've been an exciting score for what looks to be an itriguing thriller. Look for the score to be much in the vain of Long Kiss Goodnight with a few light jazz touches. And expect to Varese to release in March (I hope)

I'm sure Silvestri's score will be fine, but I'm disappointed Goldsmith's out. He was one of the two reasons I was going to see the movie (John Frankenheimer was the other). I know this sort of thing goes on a lot, but does anyone know exactly what happened?

I've heard stories that Goldsmith did write a score and had thrown out because the Weinsteins (the musical illiterates that they are) didn't like whatever he wrote for the film. The other story is a scheduling conflict of some sort and now he's attached to The Yards for Miramax and it looks like an evenbetter project than Reindeer Games. Let's not forget Paul Verhoeven's The Hollow Man.

Personally I am disappointed that Jerry Goldsmith is not composing it. However I am
extremely looking forward to Alan Silvestri's score, remember Judge Dredd?

Anyway, I'd also like to know about an possible soundtrack release.

It was that ol' devil, scheduling conflicts. I imagine they lost the Goldsmith window once Miramax pushed the movie away from a Christmas release. As is also typical of the Weinsteins, there was probably substantial post-production surgery (the Weinsteins count themselves filmmakers themselves, and enjoy meddling in editing as much as possible). I'm personally not sure Frankenheimer would have stood for much of this, though, and would have insisted on Goldsmith no matter what they said. (It's not like Silvestri is one of their pet composers, either.)

Hey guys, good news. Jerry's doing another good looking flick called The Kid starring Bruce Willis which is ready to be released this coming summer. It great to hear that Jerry's doing some fun projects again. Check out the Moviedatabase for more details on this project.
