    Hi there,
Just got back from Scream 3. Suspenseful as hell (I'm a sucker for that), but I'm disappointed with the "wrap up". Anyway, Beltrami's score was well used, and this time he got to use HIS version of Broken Arrow! It's actually less cheesy in this film than it would have been in the second one. I mean, the style has slightly changed. Anyway, there's some great "mickey-mousy" action stuff (remember the music for Parker Posey---not a spoiler---running down the narrow corridor; the music runs right with her!), and of course Sidney's Theme (the first time we hear the theme struck me as being tracked in very poorly; it's a scene that looks as if it should be unscored) again.

I'll be buying the Varese album for this one! I betcha $10 that it has all of the "hip" sounding cues (like the first Scream 2 cue on the Varese double bill) in lieu of the good stuff. Let's hope.

    Shaun

    Hi Shaun,

I loved the first movie, and I liked the second one a lot, however, I wasn't too fond of the second's ending. Is the wrap up of the third one better (or at least no worse) than the second? I really do want to enjoy it. Unless the ending is just terrible, I'm pretty sure I'll like it.

    Thanks for your comments.

Is there any word of a score release??? Or is Varese gonna make us wait a few years again while we beg and cry?

    Hey Dave,

Varese *is* releasing the score to Scream 3. It will be released on the 29th of February.

Does anyone know what the running time for the disc will be?

    Sean Robert Abbey

Having seen the first two and the trailer for the third, I looks like "Scream 1" is still the best. Number 3 - with the exception of the scene where Neve Campbell's trapped in the crashed police car - sucked big-time. I hope 3 goes back to being scary AND funny like the first. If not, well, I guess I'll always have the first, which you can watch without having to see the sequels, because there really is no setup.

Varese doesn't post titles or track times on their site till the cd is released. So unless someone gets a promo ahead of time and reviews it, who knows how long. But I'm guessing not more than 30 minutes. But at least it's 30 minutes from one score.

Tom (I'm not giving anything away, so it's OK to read),
If you didn't like the ending of Scream 2 (lord knows I didn't), you really won't like the ending of Scream 3. That's all I'll say.

Scream 3 score is great. It has the old themes as well as new ones. And it is played by a full blown orchestra and has a chorus through some of it..I thought the movie was great...better than the second one but just as good as the first one. The ending didn't suck I thought..it was very interesting...After that I knew one of my theroies I told my friends about the first movie was true..Anyhow..the score CD is close to 35 minutes..can't wait till Feb.29

Thanks for the warning Shaun, I watch the film with a slightly jaundiced eye, and maybe the ending won't bother me too much. Thanks for the comments.

I think the logical choice would be for Varese to release more than just the "hippest" cues, and having seen the movie yesterday (much better than Scream 2, Ehren Kruger is a much better writer than Williamson), I'd have to say that I heard all of the old stuff recycled, the new stuff I guess I didn't notice except for maybe 1 or 2 instances which wouldn't make a CD, not even for Varese. And if they re-did the same cues, why buy it? it's just the same music as on the last CD.. Sidney's theme isn't changed, the big death music from Scream 2 hasn't changed.. stuff like that (these are all great cues by the way.. but I want the new stuff damnit!)
