Provided the darn thing ever gets made, of course. The obvious choice would be either Goldsmith (think "The Mummy") or Williams doing his Indiana Jones thingy again. Personally, if I was making it, I'd go with Goldsmith, just because he's my all-time favorite composer. Either choice would be perfect, but I'm curious as to who you would like to see score the flick.

I absolutely agree with you and either Jerry Goldsmith or John Williams scoring Tomb Raider. I doubt Williams would be interested in scoring something like that. I know Jerry would score it. Here are someother recommendations, Alan Silvestri (who no doubt has written exciting scores for the upcoming Reindeer Games and What Lies Beneath with Harrison Ford and Michelle Pfeffier), David Newman, Christopher Young (Get The Hurricane), John Frizzell, Mark Mancina, and James Horner. would be good choices.

I also think Bruce Broughton could be a good choice. After Goldsmith and Williams. Broughton's score for Lost In Space is great!

For almost any potential project, I always say "CHRISTOPHER YOUNG!" I want him to get so many opportunities and write so many scores that I'll finally get borderline sick of him! Except I won't because he's such a huge talent, and ... he does, I believe, represent the future of film music as we know it. We're drooling over Goldsmith, Williams and Horner today? Our descendants will be salivating over Christopher Young, even more than some of us do at present.

There, I said it, and to quote Dave Foley, "I feel better for having said it!"

Looking forward to THE HURRICANE. (I know, I know, I should've seen it, but I haven't had time to see a movie since TOY STORY 2, awright? Stop yelling at me!)

Of course I always shout "Richard Band!" for these questions, but that's not being realistic. My second choice is David Newman.

If the film ever gets made (knock on wood - have they chosen a lead YET?!), I would look forward to David Newman, Alan Silvestri, John Ottman or Graeme Revell in the music credit (and Catherine Zeta-Jones as Lara Croft!) A guy can dream, can't he?

whoever it was, I forget his name, who scored the Lost World video game.. He should do it. I say that because he did a wonderful job bringing that sort of sound to a videogame, and I think he could do the same for a movie version of tomb raider.. the style I heard would fit the movie just perfectly, and I think that composer would have a easy time just nailing it.

Oh, God! And here I was, hoping to keep this score-centered and not casting choices-centered.

Anyhow, I can't believe you would want Zeta-Jones in this picture (your opinion, of course, and I respect that). The obvious choice for Lara Croft is Elizabeth Hurley, who would nicely fill out Lara's wardrobe a heckuva lot better than Zeta-Jones.

Not to mention that Hurley's a lot easier on the eyes.

From what I've heard Erika Eleniak has been cast as Lara Croft. At this point I can't confirm that, but this was from the Hollywood Reporter a while back. The Reporter is usually pretty acurate, being the industry guide and all.

Well, no one should score Tomb Raider, for it should not be made, BUT, if someone had to score a crappy adaption, thta has useless hours of nonstop boiring action, then Hanz Zimmerman, or Goldsmith would fit the mold, aint nothing like 2.5 hours of crappy action score, that drags, and drags, and drags, don't get me wrong, i like Zimmerman, and i suppose Goldsmith, but action is there field, and dragging on and on seems to be there way...hehe

I'd go with Goldsmith. Or maybe Marco Beltrami. It'd be great to see what he could do with a project like this, rather than yet another horror/slasher type film. Oh, yes!
And as for the casting, apparently it's already cast :
"They have their Lara Croft as well apparently - an unknown actress who's, so I'm told, in her early twenties and comes from a stage background. Her first name is Kim but other than that, I don't know."

Is Andre L. there under a psuedonym?

I don't know if Erika Eleniak is too "shirt," but she sure fills out a shirt! She would be a very interesting choice for Laura if she could handle the accent and looked good as a brunette.

I think the very underrated David Whitaker would write a great score for the movie!

I would have to agree with Jeron and say Davind Arnold. This is odd b/c I usually do not agree with Jeron about who should score upcoming movies (I am not of the mind that Goldsmith or Arnold do everything) but here is a point where Arnold jumps into mind. You know, I used to not like him - but now...

I'm not saying I hate Arnold. Everyone on this board can like/hate you they want. I love Arnold's early work - "StarGate" and "The Last of the Dogmen" - but the rest has failed to impress me. "Independence Day" had it's moments, but his Bond scores were absolute embarrasments to the franchise, "TWINE" more so than "TND." And it's a shame John Barry believes Arnold is the best person since him to score the Bond films.

His mix of techno and orchestra are mind-numbling bad. He's obviously trying to make the scores sound contemporary by doing so, but it just makes them worse. If your going to take an orchestra and mix in so much techno-crap, you better make sure it's done well and suites the picture which, in the case of "TWINE," it doesn't.

They should let the master of music, Jerry Goldsmith conduct the music for Tomb Raider! After all of the other movies he has scored, he might have enough time to do this score! It's going to sound awesome when it's finished!

I just wanted to share that I feel completely opposite of Dantoris. I hate David Arnold's earlier stuff. Stargate and everything around that time. Then came Independence Day which did have its moments (albeit few in my opinion) then he started writing really good stuff and he just keeps getting better. The World is Not Enough is his best work to date. It is fresh and exciting and original and new. Sure, in a few years we are going to look back and think it's incredibly dated. but for now...
At least it isnt all techno or all orchestra - both have been done. What he did with TWINE hasnt. if it has please let me know because I want it. I want anything that blends techno beats and orchestras.

    DjC,

If you ever bash Zimmer again on this board I will make you feel so emotionaly withdrawn that Peter K will have to ban me for it...And that goes for all of you out there! Zimmer has such a wide range of musical talent that its astounding. I mean, to go from The Thin Red Line to Prince of Egypt in the same year can't be beaten. And let's not forget the creative talent that went into the masterpiece, Crimson Tide.

Here, more than anybody else, is THE prime choice to score this movie.

If you want to hear what I mean, go get the "Point of No Return" score/album. Those few score tracks will shake your home theatre, and bring tears to your eyes with emotion and drama. It's action packed, dramatic, and even alittle comical. Quite an interesting score, and probably one of his most underrated. Though not one of his best, I think the Tomb Raider score should reflect some of this music. Let's not forget this is a video game about running around in dungeons, solving puzzles, and killing things. We can't get TOO dramatic with it.

According to Aint it cool, http://www.aint-it-cool-news.com/display.cgi?id=5389 Angelina Jolie has been cast as Lara Croft, with Simon ('Con Air') West directing. Does this mean we could be in for a MediaVentures score? I hope not, as I think that this really needs a big, old-fashioned orchestral score.

Following THE MUMMY and even THE 13th WARRIOR, coming a decade after his kinetic KING SOLOMON'S MINES, there's no one better for action/adventure (or anything else seemingly at any particular moment?) than Jerry Goldsmith.

That said, it sure would be nice to see a baby boomer guy make a John Williams-like leap to bombastic immortality with this one. I too would offer the names Broughton and James Newton Howard.

But also Debney, Ottman, and--listen closely folks--Tom Newman.

I think that young Thomas would be great for a film like this; he may never accept the challenge...but I sure wish he would. I think that too few appreciate his atmospheric and contemporary sound. He could rally more fans with a kick-back action/adventure score and album.

Oh well that's what I think.

Well, the trailer is here (complete with appropriate techno-style music - does anyone know what this is, btw), but I still don't know who's scoring it. Does anyone?

Also, the trailer looks quite cool. Maybe not the most original thing, but it sure looks like it's going to be entertaining fun. What more could you ask for? And I was quite impressed by Jolie's accent too.
