Now don't go crazy here, I am sure all of us would like to see all DVDs with isolated score. What are just a couple that you would love to have the complete score on.I would love to see an isolated score on the Wyatt Earp DVD. James Newton Howard composed an incredible score for this movie and there seems to be a whole lot of good music in the movie that didn't make it on the OST.

I always wished Face/Off had one. I knew it would never happen because Paramount are show lame on disc supplements (they were even in the days of LaserDisc). Nevertheless, one can dream.Notting Hill was also another DVD I had hoped to see an iso score on. Does a promo exist? It's wonderful music, and the DVD came at a time where Universal seemingly could not get enough of putting Isolated scores on their discs. I was very upset.
The very first announcement of The Shawshank Redmeption on DVD from about 2 years ago had an isolated score feature down on the specifications list. All this time later the disc is here without that feature (or indeed the other extras announced for it way back then). The CD is missing my fave theme that appears about 3 to 4 times in the film. I need it badly!
I would have likes one on The Prince of Egypt as well. Couple of nice cues not on the released CD.
There are quite a few I would really like. As for upcoming DVDs, I hope Toy Story 2, American Beauty, Green Mile and some others have the feature.Columbia seems to be really into isolated scores right now, they're appearing on quite a few of their discs and some of their upcoming releases are ot have them (The Messenger, Little Women...etc).
Also, Columbia is planning future Special Ed's of Fifth Element and Leon for sometime in 2000, and Eric Serra isolated scores on them would go down VERY nicely!
Also, I am hoping the May release of The World is Not Enough will have an isolated score, because if it does not I will be protesting on MGM's front doorstep faster then you can say "David Arnold"!

Cruel Intentions is another score I would have loved to see isolated on the DVD. At numerous points on the commentary does the director and producers say how much they love the score...but obviously not enough to release anything from it huh? (they released a money making cash in soundtrack instead)

All things Spielberg and/or Lucas (ie. Willow, Indiana Jones, Hook.) And (which will never happen) the remaining Star Trek movies.

If I am correct a legitimate release of "Cruel Intentions" will be out in a few months or so. I "read" talk about it on rec.music.movies. The guys responsible for this production are aiming at a commercial release.NP -First Knight Expanded *****/*****

I wished "The Shadow" had had an isolated score. I think it's one of Jerry's better works from the early '90s.Already mentioned are the Indiana Jones films. I'd like to see an isolated "Jaws" score, too.

I know, since no one is putting Mystery Alaska out as a CD, then it should be released as an isolated score on DVD!!Marc

As a matter of fact I think all DVD's should have isolated scores.Just kidding, I read your text. Serious. I think all movies that didn't get a proper cd release should get an isolated score on the DVD. For example:
Loch Ness (Jones)
Mathilda (David Newman)
Alaska (Reg Powell)
Home Alone 3 (Glennie-Smith)
...Then there are several movies that have 30 minute scores that deserve an isolated track:
Starship Troopers (Poledouris)
Under Siege 2 (Poledouris)
Sudden Death (Debney)
...Certain movies have good releases and one shouldn't whine about the fact that there's not enough on the disc. Just to mention a few stated above:
Face/Off (John Powell)
Wyatt Earp (Newton Howard)
Every movie by SpielbergNo offense meant.

Kris just said it best: "I think all DVDs should have isolated scores."So do I. I may love what you hate, and you may hate what I love, but we all should ideally have access to whatever it is. (Sometimes what we hated yesterday, we manage to learn to love. e.g. in my case, the music of Vangelis.)

Well, I'm with Marc Flake on MYSTERY, ALASKA and with just about all of the others listed. I have about 150 DVD's & this wonderful ability/feature is sadly underused. Some others I would like to see:HEAVY METAL (Bernstein's score, not rock)
GHOSTBUSTERS and STRIPES (see above)
HELLBOUND: HELLRAISER II
THE BOY WHO COULD FLY
GALAXY QUEST
SLEEPY HOLLOW
AMERICAN BEAUTYAh, nuts. Just ammend that to say "All of 'em"!

Mark!Hey, great! Someone else on this list who has actually heard this score! I've felt like a voice in the wilderness for so long.
The rest of you, when this comes out on DVD or video, rent it and listen to the score. It's great. And it's a shame it isn't being released.

Marc and Mark, I can't wait to see what you've been raving about for so long (esp. Marc)! I want to hear this brilliant score by Carter Burwell. I hope there's an iso.Jeron

Marc -- Yeah, I know what you mean about being the "voice in the wilderness" on MYSTERY, ALASKA. I was so impressed with it when I saw the movie that I literally went straight to Tower Records, expecting to find it. Like you, I found.....nothing.
Too bad, as Burwell did terrific stuff for this movie. I can only hope that it gets "packaged" with another of his scores, like the RAISING ARIZONA / BLOOD SIMPLE and FARGO / BARTON FINK discs. Sadly, I'm not holding my breath for an isolated score on any DVD release: the movie was critically underwhelming & a fairly potent box office bomb.Jeron -- Rent this when it becomes available! Wonderful scoring in service of a pretty good little film. The music manages to be both introspective and uplifting without falling into "sports movie" cliches. Heck of a nice site here, BTW. Thanks for allowing me to join in!

The original release of Close Encounters of the Third Kind (not the special edition or the final directors cut). I'm still waiting for Criterion to release their excellent Laserdisk version on DVD.

If Image ever re-releases its letterboxed Coman Poe double disc of PIT AND THE PENDULUM/FALL OF THE HOUSE OF USHER and the letterboxed MASTER OF THE WORLD onto DVD, it would be great to have those terrific Les Baxter scores isolated.

Greg,I much prefer the definitive edition cut of Close Encounters to LD re-mastered in THX and Dolby Digital by Columbia. That documentary is longer the the movie!
Columbia do not allow Criterion to release their movies unfortunately, so the DVD from Criterion will never happen. It was good though.

Dan,
That's too bad. I'm so tired of the constant tinkering by Spielberg with this film, my favorite. I've always liked the film as it originally premiered, and that version is only available on the Criterion LD.[This message has been edited by Greg Bryant (edited 04 February 2000).]

I'm with you Greg, the original cut of CEOT3K is a masterpiece and my favorite Spielberg film and Williams score. I find the redone versions to be very misguided. I want the original cut that had me crying in the theatre more than 20 years (can it be that long?) ago -- back when I was in school.

Tom,
I think I had the same experience as you had with CE3K. And yes, it was over 20 years ago, and that film has not lost any of it's power for me. I was right there with Roy Neary, entering the mothership.A number of things have always stood out for me. Bob Balaban backs away into the wind - he looks left, he looks right, he looks up; the Crescendo Summit; the last 35 minutes of the film; the mothership rises above Devil's Tower; how suddenly everything went silent at the end, the only sound being William's score. Words like operatic and poetically visual come to mind to explain it. It was the perfect ending to a perfect movie.
There are some films that I wish I could erase the experience of seeing it for the first time so I could experience it all over again. This is one of them.
This film has remained with me for a long time, and still remains my favorite.
