Topic: Questions for John

To everyone here:This Saturday, I will be interviewing John Ottman for an article about the making of Urban Legend 2. The questions will be covering the entire film making process, with emphasis on directing, editing and composing, those things that relate directly to him.
However, I would also be seriously interested in finding out what YOU, his fans and fans of filmmaking and film scoring in general, would like to know about him. Let me know and I will be happy to ask those questions which apply.
many thanks for all your help!!

Very technical, I know:When working on a picture, does he consider himself an editor or a composer first? Does he cut the picture to its own particular rhythm, or to the rhythm of what he's composing? Does the cutting come first for him, or does he hear the music for the scene before he's even cut it? Or a combination thereof? (I'd imagine the latter.)
Aah, you probably thought of that one awready, Mr. InSanDiego, but I'd like to hear the answer anyway.

I'm curious as to where your interview will be published. Will we be able to read it when done?

How much control does a director have over the script? Do the producers have more?

I'll be submitting the article to various places....including Film Score Monthly and several web sites who might have an interest in it.I'll let you all know.
Thanks in advance.

Wow, Joe!
Make sure you ask him to score your film! Get a script ready! Ask him to get off his lazy ass and release his Cruel Intentions score!Obviously that was a joke. Not the Cruel Intentions part. He's a workaholic!
Good luck, Joe,

Is his film a sequel? Is he in the position to rule about the filmmusic which will be used?

Urban Legend 2 is a sequel only in name. There is ONE returning character, the security guard. He is scoring the film as well as having directed it.

There's one thing I'd be happy if you could ask him:If he had to choose between scoring or directing, what would he choose?

Urban Legend 2 also features an actress I want to use in a future film of mine. Her name is Jennifer Morrison and she's in Stir Of Echoes (she's the "slow" one). I love how she says "Hi" in it. Check it out.Shaun

As an adjunct to the question about what John would choose (composing or directing); Are there any similarities in preparation and/or execution for the two different tasks?
Thanks! Let us know where to read it!

>Ask him to get off his lazy ass and release his Cruel Intentions score!Wow. Did Ottman write a score for Cruel Intentions? What, was it rejected? The film was released with a score by Edward Shearmur, wasn't it?
