I thought this might be interesting to know. As many of you I'm sure have heard, David Arnold will apparently not be scoring this film. However, I just read at FilmForce.net that John Williams is in the running for replacing Arnold. Of course, this is pure speculation at the moment. Anybody else have news on this? Or want to comment?--Jason S.

I read this at soundtrackmag.com:In addition we have received several reports that John Williams will be tapped to score the new Mel Gibson film THE PATRIOT.
Let's hope so.

Well, these are just rumours to me. I don't think Williams will score this one. If he did, it would contradict a lot of the projects he has signed on to recently. As much as I love an Emmerich/Devlin production for its sheer entertainment, I just don't see the "artistically quality-sensible" John Williams name attached to it.Could be interesting, though.

Forget aliens, forget outer space, forget parallel dimensions, forget bad remakes, forget everything you know about the Devlin-Emmerich partnership; "The Patriot" is an American Revolution drama.

"Forget everything I know about the Devlin/Emmerich partnership"? Everything I DO know helps me spell the word "DISASTER" in big bold ink. It'll probably do fine boxoffice-wise, but these chumps have no business pretending they're filmmakers. We might be in for a hell of a score, though.

You know what, Rocco? As you may know, I'm an aspiring young film maker... and everytime I see Stargate or Independence Day I say to myself: "Gosh, I'd be really proud of myself if I made a sci/fi flick this awesome."Jeron

Jeron, I'm confidently hoping that you'll be a far superior film maker to D&E. I liked ID4 (Stargate had it's moments... Godzilla was a world-class stink bomb) but in the same way as I enjoy Creature from the Black Lagoon or Tarantula. Pure cheeseball escapism. The test for these guys will be this very project (The Patriot). If they can pull off more than gratiutous spectacle and infuse this film some measure of insight into character and/or history then they may graduate from the trashy to the respectable. But I agree. Trashy or not this could be a choice assignment for whoever scores it.

Actually I think James Horner could do a decent job on this one.Kevin

I don't know why so many people give ID4 a bad wrap. For pure entertainment, it was awesome. Anyone going to a film like this expecting more is a moron. As for Godzilla, for me, the creature itself was great. I think they did an awesome job at a believable mutated lizard. I like the original, but it still looks like a man in a suit. This one was beleivable. Casting should've been different though. As for "The Patriot", I think you can expect something different for E/D. First off, I don't think Gibson would attach himself to a bomb. And Williams scoring it should be awesome. Give E/D a chance, this is a different type of film. You may be surprised.
Then again... I could eat my words.

If Williams does this movie I think it will only help the crediblity of the film and of D/E. Godzilla as stated previously looked great but was too much of a modern day media influenced catch phrase of the day kinda movie.A movie like The Patriot can't (i hope to god) have any cool new sayings or Puff Daddy song.
Heres hoping for a action packed emotional rollercoaster of a score from Willaims!!

Yeah, Stargate and ID4 are nice movies with good scores, why so many bad reviews? No one wanna a real funny anymore?
And yes, Williams on patriot will be great, since Arnold seems to be lost nowadys in his Bond projects.
