    Anyone else think it's getting near the time where we could see a Volume 3 on the shelves?

    I mean I know Elfman is not working on one right now, but maybe over the period of the next year and a half or so. He could have some neat stuff on there...

    Dan (UK)

    PS: Elfman hates do not bother responding. Cheers

    I just got the first two volumes last month, and let me tell you they were great. I'd love to see an volume 3 with more of his newer work, especially his work like A Civil Action, Good Will Hunting, An Simple Plan plus some of the other short scores he has done. Hint, hint!

    However I wonder if it would be better for an box set to be released instead. Such as an 4 CD set called The Elfman Selection or something like that, with an more varied selection of music than the 3 volumes of the other collection would be able to offer.

    Could you really call it "Music for a Darkened Theatre 3"? I mean that name always sounds like it is a CD of the quintessential scary "Elfman music". How many scores like that has he done lately? I can only think of Sleepy Hollow.

    It could have the Cassandra Aria from Scream 2 on it. Now that would be good.

    Yes, that's an interesting question, Audacity. Maybe it should be called "Unpredictable Music for a Not-so-dark Theatre" or something.

    But I'd definitely love to see a third volume, not so much for the widely available music that I've already got, but for pieces such as:

    * Batman - The Animated Series (theme)
    * Dilbert (theme)
    * Great People of the Bible and How They Lived (?)
    * Lincoln/Mercury (commercial)
    * Little Demons / Julian (musical bootleg)
    * Modern Vampires
    * My Favourite Martian (theme, Debney-score released as promo)
    * Nissan (commercial)
    * Perversions of Science (theme)
    * Scream 2 ("Cassandra's Aria")
    * Sledge Hammer (theme)
    * Summer School (score or only "Goodbye, Goodbye"?)
    * Texas Chainsaw Massacre, the (what song?)

    What about it?

    Well there were six years in between Volume 1 and Volume 2, but Volume 2 was very long, so if there will be another one it may show up much sooner than the last one did.

    I'd love another one, of course.

    to Audacity:

    I don't see why they couldn't. You're right, it does kinda sound that way, but you gotta keep in mind that not all of the music that Elfman has put on the previous two compiilations are dark horror scores. The first two have music from films like Peewee's Big Adventure, and the Sequel, Back to School, Hot to Trot, Black Beauty.. It's worked, before, and it could certainly work again.
    I do, however, prefer sabbey's idea of a box set. I think that us Elfman fans out there deserve more than the limited releases that Varese usually tosses together.

    You find that when the theatre is darkened, you can see the film a lot better.

    Dawk,

    Your right about Pee-Wee and other light hearted scores on his first two, but the majority of the music was the usual Elfman Dark music. This time around I can only think of Sleepy Hollow that would be considered dark, everything else he has done lately has been more, forgive the term, normal.

    Pete,
    You are hilarious, I guess all film music would be considered "Music for a Darkened Theatre", unless the music was composed for Television, then it could be "Music for Movies not good enough to be in Darkened Theatres".

    Elfman did the main theme for Perversions of Science? That's awesome, I always thought it sounded Elfmanesque, but never knew it was actually him.

    Why wasn't March of the Dead from Army of Darkness on Vol. 2?

    I can't wait for MFADT Vol. 3 myself --
    Elfman hinted at it in the latest issue of Soundtrack!

    Thor, a couple of corrections however:

    The song "Goodbye, Goodbye" was an Oingo Boingo product used at the end of "Fast Times at Ridgemont High".

    Elfman did score "Summer School" (the score
    is "Back to School" lite) and wrote and performed an original song "Happy".

    It would be nice to have "Happy" and "Weird Science" on MFADT Vol. 3.

    SBD: Indeed "Goodbye, goodbye" is an Oingo product (a bluesy one at that). I knew that, and actually own the song myself. I was just wondering if any of the score from "Summer School" was released. I know a soundtrack has been released, but I think it's song-only. It would make a nice addition to MFADP3.

    Oh, and "Weird Science" is available, of course, on the album "Dead Man's Party" (I think).

    If and when Danny Elfman does do this MFADT Volume 3 he should no doubt include these:

    The unreleased portion of Dolores Claiborne. (which is his personal favorite score)
    Summer School
    Anywhere But Here (a lengether suite of the score please)
    My Favortie Martian Theme
    Cassandra Aria from Scream 2
    A Civil Action
    A Simple Plan
    Good Will Hunting
    Little Demons
    Mars Attacks
    Instinct
    Sleepy Hollow
    The End Credits from Pyscho
    The Frighteners
    Men In Black
    Flubber
    American Pyscho

    and other odds and ends which would make for another cool Elfman collection

    Let me correct something you said Hard Target: Danny Elfmanīs own personal favorite score of his, is not Dolores Claiborne, but Edward Scissorhands. He has said so in many interviews, including the comments in MFADT 2.

    Hey SFT if Dolores Claiborne isn't his favorite score then how come he took the time and trouble to produce a lengther personal personal promo of this score Ha!! BTW I have it it's terrific better than that traunced Varese version.

    Well, how should I know? He probably has "expanded" versions of alot of his own scores, and that doesnīt mean we, the fans, would actually know about it. I think we just got lucky with Dolores.

    I would love to hear the "Pure Luck" main title on volume 3. It's a wonderfully wacky piece of music. Check out the audio clip at Music for a Darkened People, under the "Media" section.

    The End Credits from Pyscho

    Hard Target,
    Elfman wasn't involved in the "Weepy Donuts" end title cue for the horrid Psycho remake. It was---Bill Frisell and someone else who I think was Bill Laswell, but I'm probably remembering that wrong. Either way it was a neat piece of Herrmann-inspired coolness.

    These albums must sell very well, because they are surely HORRENDOUSLY expensive to produce (re-use and all) ... I'm grateful for every one of em. However, we're probably sentenced to a couple more years of waiting for volume three ... (though the long wait for volume two was made up for by its massive length)

    WHERE *IS* SLEDGE HAMMER? (My all-time favorite moment from the show: he spots a would-be suicide on a ledge, and just starts shooting at him until the guy retreats inside. Two howls and a half. Remember the BASIC INSTINCT/FATAL ATTRACTION episode? The creator of the show, who wrote that one, more or less remade it at feature length as the movie HEXED, which is dopey but funny.)

    NP: nothing, what should I pop in? I wonder ...

    Here's another vote for the SLEDGE HAMMER theme. Not to get off track too far, but I really dug that show.

    As I've said, the SLEDGE HAMMER theme is already available on one of the TVT TV music compilations. I want it more easily accesible nevertheless.
