With John Ottman not being available to score this film many names are now
    being mentioned as replacements.

Danny Elfman seem to be the one most mentioned at this point, however as
far as I can tell at this time it's far from a done deal.

So if I could make a suggestion to the director (this choice is based on
composers who I'm told he DOESN'T want) I would suggest the right person for
    the job would be....

    Don Davis.

Major Box-Office Hit with "The Matrix", which would make him acceptable to
20th Century Fox. Critical Acclaim from mainstream reviewers.

He has a proven track record with films and TV programs dealing with the
fantastic and can write very strong sweeping themes.

And he has an edge that IMHO the films very much will need.

All in all a much better choice for that film many of the names that seem to
    get mentioned.

    Any thoughts?

I agree, and it would be great for Davis to do work on another big film where he could focus on thematic material a lot more than he did on The Matrix.

Ford, I think Davis would be an EXCELLENT choice to score X-Men...(I'd prefer Goldsmith myself...but that is probably an EXTREME long shot)

It would be excellent if Davis were to use his sweeping epic style from Warriors of Virtue combined with the darker edge of The Matrix. I also think that Basil Poledouris would do a great job

Let me just make this perfectly clear: Danny Elfman is NOT scoring "X-men". During a chat, Richard Elfman (Dannyīs brother) was asked by a freind of mine (Groovy Yak, administrator of The Elfman Zone) if he knew anything about Danny scoring "X-men". Richard called Danny up right there and then, and Danny said:

"I am definately NOT scoring "X-men"...

So, that should be the end of that rumor.

Yeah, Davis would be good but what about:

    Alan Silvestri?

I love that guy and his music for another super-hero, Judge Dredd, was excellent.

That is the best suggestion I've heard yet. I wish Silvestri would stop doing these stupid #@$%ing kids movies and get back to writing great action scores like Predator, Judge Dredd and the Abyss.

Definately Davis. Very good composer. And the Matrix kicks butt. He's good at thematic material and good with big orchestral action music. What was cool with the matrix, according to his commentary on the DVD, he composed, arranged, and conducted the orchestra for Matrix.

Actually I have thought about this lately, plus the fact that almost every board and ML are having threads on this subject helps as well.

I would like to see Shirley Walker score the X-Men film.

Well personally I have not heard Mystery Men. It was all of her great Batman and Superman scores, that made me think she would be perfect for the film.

BTW is there an soundtrack release of her's and Steven Warbeck's score to MM?

    Dr. Evil,

Since you are rather new here I will be a little more nice to you, than I normally would.

During the past year (almost) that I have been at this site, I have allways been amazed of how freindly people have been towards each other. We all respect each others opinions and we donīt bash specific composers, because we know everybody has different tastes in music.
The keyword here is RESPECT. We are like one big family, and frankly, we donīt need or want people like you here, if you have nothing smarter to say(!) Please show a little more respect towards your fellow members. If not, then I suggest you find another place to be.

Now SFT, come on. Let's be a little more understanding. I know where Dr. Evil is coming from - completely. Sometimes conventional words and phrases just don't have the same... power and effervescence. Sometimes you just HAVE to quote a line from Austin Powers. On the other hand, Dr. Evil - your quote wasn't VERBATIM, so it doesn't count. Shame on you. If you are going to quote Austin Powers, you must do it correctly.

Alas, I must go to class now. I hope we have all learned something meaningful here today.

Oh!! Only good Elfman fans can be so rude!!
Well, I said my opinion as I pleased, and I just don't understand why you guys are so upset, I didn't offend anyone, I know that, and is enough for me. As is enough knowing that Elfman is boring as X-Men. For me.
Andre Lux is now remind me another thread, where people talk about (not so good) Elliot Goldenthal, some of them likes him, some of them bash him, but are opinions. We read, reply or not and is ok. But Elfman is quite different, NO ONE CAN DISLIKE HIM!!
Well, you can bite your ears, I still think he is a not so talented person, thank you.
And I will not follow your advise to look for another place to be , I like him, beat it.

Personaly I think Danny Elfman is a mediocre and overrated movie composer. So what? I still didn't get why no one can say why they dispise this guys work without receveing a not-so-friendly "warning" from some die-hard Elfmanfan. It's quite funny, since no one seemed worried about people caling Gondenthal (one composer I admire) names on another thread...

Why can't we all be friends? Elfmaniacs of not?

His style of writing, maybe incorporate an orchestra with the synths. <kisses fingers>
