Indee, this may sound weired to some of you but after having heard two composers voicing their wishes to have scored certain films that were scored by another composer (Williams), I came up with this weired thing.

What score would you have liked to been composed by another composer than the one who composed it.

Example: Goldsmith would have liked to score Schindler's List.
Don Davis would have liked to score Angela's Ashes.

Now, the answers of course don't mean the original composer did a bad job, its just for comparisons I guess.

I would have liked to see what Goldsmith would have done with The Fury and Dracula, two excellent scores by Williams.

I would have loved to see what Williams would have done for Supergirl a great score by Goldsmith.

oh yes, what would Williams have composed for Willow?

How would Elfman do had he composed Star Wars or Goldsmith.

I don't know, to me these are interesting questions that i try to answer in my head.

Phew,I don't know?.......How about
John Barry on Branaugh's Frankenstein
Jerry Goldsmith on The Lion in Winter
I think Excaliber scored by Basil Poledouris would have been something else though!

There's a heap load of composers who would of loved to be given the opportunity to score 2001 A Space Odysey, I've heard both Barry and Morricone express this wish in interviews!

I've expressed this sentiment elsewhere, and know it's well beyond the realm of possibility, but imagine Bernard Herrmann's BATMAN or THE AGE OF INNOCENCE; Goldsmith -- or Wojciech Kilar -- doing THE SIXTH SENSE; Christopher Young doing THE IRON GIANT ...

... and these are all scores by people I already liked (as with your original post).

Scores I'd REPLACE, no, it's bedtime, no sense in getting all riled up ... nighty-night to all and sundry.

I am surprised that no one has mentioned Eric Serra's score to GoldenEye. Now that is an film score that could use an re-scoring if there ever was one.

So personally I'd like to see how either John Barry or David Arnold would re-score GoldenEye. Actually I'd love to see how John Barry would have done the Arnold scores as well. What the heck, all the Bond scores.

I really like John Barry, and sometimes I wonder how he would have done particular
scores, he either left or was fired from. I guess most of the posters here feel the same
way about their own favorite composers.

Personally, I wonder how James Horner or Jerry Goldsmith would have done Star Trek IV, not to say I don't like it the way it is, but it is my less favorite of the films scores. And to be honest, deep down I wish Jerry Goldsmith did *all* nine Star Trek movies. Please don't laugh, I happen to like his work.

Than again I like all James Horner scores as well. Please don't kill me.

BTW, thanks for the greeting. It's great to be here.

One score that I really disliked was Mark Isham's Blade. I mean.. it was dark, and did a great job of being dark, but I don't think it really did the best job backing up the film's energy.. I think Don Davis would have done a great job, just look at The Matrix, he managed to stay away from major thematic material without making it sound like a someone playing a few minor chords on a synthesizer. He would have been able to set the mood, while keeping the energy up.

The one I always think of is "The English Patient" .... mmmmmm, John Barry. That would have been heavenly. I also would like to have seen Golsmith or Willams do Titanic, just for fun. Patrick Doyle for "The Messenger" would have been nice - but then again anyone but Serra would have been nice.

how about these:

Bernard Herrmann doing The Ninth Gate?
Jerry Goldsmith doing Company Of Wolves?
John Williams doing Patton and Tora! Tora! Tora! ?
John Barry doing Lost In Space?
and finally
Miklos Rozsa doing Titanic????????

well, think about it...

Golsmith scoring "Schindler's List" would have been highly interesting. (Not that there is anything wrong at all with Williams score, which is one of his finest).

Sean,
here you don't have to worry. We might get into heated discussion and bag on each other once in a while, but we really love each other because we have the same addiction. Film music.

Hey! that's good to know. So I guess that means I won't get lynched for liking Bicentennial Man.

Actually I rarely dislike any scores. I noticed I am one of the few that likes most types of genres of Film Music, for an example, how many others here like Batman Beyond or The World is not Enough?

Hmmm, Goldsmith scoring "Schindler's List"?
I can't imagine it. I keep hearing Brass (not that there's anything wrong with that).

Sometimes I wonder what Goldenthal's "Heat" would have been like with a James Horner or Jerry Goldsmith score.
As perfect as it is, I think about what Elia Cmiral's score for "Ronin" would have been like if it had been done by Goldsmith, or perhaps Zimmer.

hey Sean, I'm with ya (i.e. I like those scores)! In fact, I find myself frequently forced to defend certain composers and scores more than I get to criticize them. In other words, my all-eating taste ALMOST NEVER allows me to play the prosecutor...

Okay, poeple, imagine this...

Alfred Hitchcock directs Alien with Bernard Herrmann scoring it...

Now before Jeron shows up at my doorstep with a dagger I have to say that I love Goldsmith's score... I just think the above situation would have been really interesting, if it were possible.

Batman by Williams. Oh yes, I would have loved that. But Dr. Evil knowing that we have Elfmann's number one defender here, that was an EVIL thing to suggest.

SFT, sick boy!

Yes, and Dr. Evil aka Rogerio should watch it! Together with FabulosusCadillacs, I was one of the foremost Elfman defenders over at FSM. Together with SFT, we've got a dangerous alliance here!!
