Right, who would you choose to score these upcoming releases? (Apologies if the films already have composers)

PITCH BLACK (Aliens in the dark with Vin Diesel)
U-571 (Submarine drama with Keitel, McConaughey and Paxton)
BATTLEFIELD EARTH (Travolta is a 9ft alien)
GONE IN SIXTY SECONDS (Cage and Duval in Bruckheimer's car theft thriller)
SHAFT RETURNS (Samuel L. Jackson kicks ass in Harlem)
RED PLANET (Val Kilmer in the 'other' Mars movie)
CHARLIE'S ANGELS (Drew and the girls fight crime!?)
X-MEN (Now Ottman's out...)
DETOX (Stallone thriller set in a hospital)
FIFTEEN MINUTES (DeNiro and Ed Burns chase an arsonist)

Well, it's over to you... and no bickering.

I don't know about anyone else, but it seems like another Hans Summer--wait, I mean Hans Zimmer....

GONE IN SIXTY SECONDS is almost a no-brainer (watch me eat my words when Zimmer doesn't score this) for Bruckheimer. Well, it could be Mark Mancina though....you never know with those guys.

U-571 sounded like Crimson Tide 2 (judging from what Steve described) so it should also go to Zimmer. But I read some info about it and apparently it's more of a spy-thriller than a dramatic confrontation aboard the submarine. If that's the case, then I am clueless.

SHAFT RETURNS....well, it would be a great way to bring Harold Faltermeyer back into film music, wouldn't it? I guess it's probably a necessity to bring back the urban flavor with Issac Hayes as well.

X-MEN? Heh, I can almost guarantee that a score album won't be release (initially) for this. I can just see it, a bunch of merchandising tie-ins and a soundtrack boasting of the latest pop/rock/techno/metal songs. I applaud you, the ever trendy Marvel Entertainment. By the way, my expectations are not very high for this movie. Okay, okay, I will just get to the composer....Elfman. Why? He did it to Batman, and from the looks of the X-Men's official site, it has a similar feel to the Batman of '89.

Great Post!

First of I don't have to mentioned that John Williams or Jerry Goldsmith could compose the music for any of these films and do a great job on each and every one.

Let's move on to specifics.

Pitch Black: Jerry Goldsmith or Trevor Jones

U-571: John Williams or Hans Zimmer or Horner

Battlefield Earth: James Horner or Cliff Eidelmann

Gone in Sixty Seconds: Carter Burrel

Shaft Returns (Gimme a break): Kiss FM and orchestral score composed by The Backstree Boys with help from the Spice Girls and supervised by Brittny Spears.

Red Planet: Jerry Goldsmith or James Horner or Bruce Broughton

Charlie's Angels (Hollywood needs really some new writers with fresh ideas, jeeezzz): Again Kiss FM or to make it interesting Michael Kamen

X-Men: John Williams, Jerry Goldsmith, Trevor Jones or Danny Elfmann

Detox: Maurice Jarre, Don Davis, or James Newton Howard

Fifteen Minutes: Danny Elfmann or Hans Zimmer or Carter Burrell or Joel McNeely.

Let the debate begin...

Scott

Forgot to add my two cents:

PITCH BLACK... Joel McNeely (he's fine for those generic action scores) Maybe Trevor Rabin too

U-571... Basil Poledouris (Feels right, and he worked with same director or Breakdown)

BATTLEFIELD EARTH... John Debney (Needs a big score)

GONE IN SIXTY SECONDS... Carter Burwell (Just a feeling, and he worked with same director on Kalifornia) Or any of the media ventures crew - Zimmer, Rabin, Mancina etc

SHAFT RETURNS... David Holmes (of Out of Sight fame -- cool) Maybe Terence Blanchard

RED PLANET... Don Davis (He can do sci-fi) Maybe Trevor Jones

CHARLIE'S ANGELS... BT (scored GO. I'll have loads of songs whatever...)

THE X-MEN... Danny Elfman (The movie NEEDS it)

DETOX... John Debney (Hasn't really done a 'dramatic thriller', and, again, worked with same director on I Know What You Did Last Summer)

FIFTEEN MINUTES... Jerry Goldsmith (LA Confidential type score)

Elia Cmiral is scoring Battlefield Earth, someone by the name of Richard Marvin is doing U-571, DEtox is by John Powell and 15 Minutes by Anthony Marinelli ( last time I checked he was doing synth music for Brian Bosworth action films).
These seem to be true according to varous sources.
Cmiral may do just fine with, though not sure if he´s capable of handling such a big film. Marinelli is definitely a bad idea

What about Mission Impossible 2 with Hans Zimmer scoring. It should be good but I still would have liked to hear another Elfman Mission Impossible score

Actually, John Powell (Media Ventures - Face/Off, Endurance, Forces of Nature, Antz) is scoring Detox.

Richard Marvin is the guy who wrote the "additional music" for Breakdown. Just FYI.
