Hey guys - I can't tell you how many times I've listened to this cd. It's incredible. George Fenton has really given us a treat and left us with a marvelous work of beauty and romance. I'm not going to review the cd here... but I just figured it should get some attention. It's hard to explain the emotional power of this score. It seamlessly shifts from an eastern influence to a classically oriented, classically orchestrated style and does so in a very attractive manner.
Listening to it now, a reprise of the "love" theme or also known as the "loss" theme - wow, it is incredibly powerful.
If you aren't a Fenton fan, check it out. This is one of my first Fenton cds (the other: You've Got Mail). It's really knocked my socks off and I highly recommend it to everyone. Heck, it's even funny - Christian Clemmenson (Filmtrack) and I are in agreement for once! =)

Havent seen the film, havent heard the score. I am really looking forward to this one, although I seriously doubt Fenton will be able to top Herrmannīs masterpiece from the orginal film.SFT

Don't compare the two. They are different films with different focuses. It makes it that much more enjoyable.Jeron

Just as you shouldn't compare the two versions of Psycho. The original is a masterpiece, and the remake has no reason to exist.

Good point, Al. I agree. The original Psycho was a masterpiece, one of the best films ever made (I canīt believe some people actually think Citizen Kane is better).
The remake, however, was awefull. Elfman and Bartek did an ok job of adapting Herrmanns brilliant score (one of the best in cinema history), but unfortunately, the acting, directing etc. cannot even be compared to the original.
Itīs funny, Alfred Hitchcock once stated, that he really didīnt care about the acting or the subject matter of any of his films.
All he cared about was the more technical aspects of the film, the soundtrack, the camera angles, the lighting, the use of montage, something he called "pure cinema."
I think the reason he always got so superb performances out of his cast, was that he always surrounded himself with professional people, and allways trusted them to do their job the best way they could. Just as any director should
Iīm sorry that Iīve gotten so off-topic, but Psycho is one of my alltime favoite films (I just bought the DVD at amazon.com Wonderfull Collectors Edition!).

Listen to this:
This will be the most important score in George Fenton's career. Although he got the Academy Award for 1982's Ghandhi (co-written with Ravi Shankhar, I guess), Fenton still needs a definitive recognition.
And be sure that A&tK WILL BE IT.HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

I wanted to get this CD today, but it takes BestBuy FOREVER to get stocked up again after Christmas... darn. There's just nothing like a George Fenton romance... Jeron (and everyone), you have to check out Dangerous Beauty and Ever After.James

Alright, I'm going back off topic. "Citizen Kane" might not seem like a big deal now, but it was legendary and groundbreaking at the time. And it's still a kick-butt film.

My absolute favorite George Fenton score and also one of my fav's in general is Fenton's MEMPHIS BELLE.This score has everything in my opinion,a great theme, some wonderfully exciting moments and some great thematic and moving moments.I dare you to listen to the end titles suite and not have tears come to your eyes.I fell in love with this score the first time I saw the film, which is great also.I highly recommend it if you can find it.

Does it have the cue where King Mongkut shows Anna her new home? Because that is about the point where I think is the best part of the score comes in...The film has been quite a hype here... cos it was completely shot here... hordes of people rushed the cinemas just to catch a glimpse of themselves as extras.

Hey Will-Yes, that track is included (I think). It's track 6, titled "The House." I haven't seen the movie yet, so I really don't know for sure... but it's a beautiful track and the track title seems to fit your description.

Wow Jeron, you got track 6 out of "I think it is the best part of the score." Hmmm...
Your good! Well, let's get to the topic! Anna and the King is a great score with some great themeatic elements and I am glad Jeron brought this topic up, because the score needs to be recognized. It plays a pretty good role in the film and it is an emotional score that actually gave me chills the first time I heard it(the good chills).Aaron

Just curious, was the music from the TV commerical for Anna and the King in the actual movie (bet someone already discussed under the trailer music section)? Does anyone know what I'm talking about? That piece of music seemed rather familiar, so I gotta make sure if it's in the actual score. It sounds promising though.

The part where I recognise (perhaps almost every score fan should know) is Dragonheart. The first part if I am not mistaken is from Merlin (?) or so I heard.

Will,I don't believe that's the same preview music I heard....trust me because I know that in one of the other trailers they have for the movie, Dragonheart was used indeed. However, I own Dragonheart (I agree that every score fan should know by heart) and this particular trailer didn't use Dragonheart, for I am nearly 100 percent positive because Dragonheart is a frequent player in my car.
