For those of you who don't know about drum corps, imagine a marching band without woodwinds or school affiliation stocked with very dedicated young musicians who compete with each other during the summer. That's basically Drum Corps. Anyway, the 10-time and defending world champions, the Concord Blue Devils have announced their show: Bernard Hermann.
This kind of ticks me off because I tried out for BD this year and didn't make it, now I find out they're playing awesome music that I know and love. Oh well, maybe if they need a last minute mallet replacement they'll call me.
SFT: you'll love this-the Blue Devils are doing a European tour this year including The Netherlands, France, and Germany. I know how much of a Hermann fan you are, you might want to check it out.
All the info is on their website: www.bluedevils.org
Please tell me I'm not the only Drum Corps fan here.

No, I am not a drum corps fan, but maybe I can become one...?
Anyway: Taxi Driver, On Dangerous Ground, Psycho, Vertigo and North by Nortwest sounds very interesting. I would really like to see them perform it. I have never been to anything like that before. Unfortunately, although Germany is "right next door" so to speak, it can be a bit difficult for a 16 year old highschool student to just drop everything and travel to Germany. But they are performing in several cities so that should make it easier for me. Iīll have to check it out! Thanks!

NP: Taxi Driver, Bernard Herrmann (just got it today. I traded that stupid End of Days soundtrack to this release by ARISTA. Great score! One of Herrmannīs best, although not quite up there with Psycho and Vertigo).

J. Peter,I am also a big fan of the Drum and Bugle Corp. My brother was a member of the Blue Knights for about three years, I watched every competition I could get to. You are absolutely right, they are some of the most dedicated musicians I have seen. They would travel all over the country, by bus, and sleep on hard High School Gym floors and have to get up the next day and march. It is definitely worth seeing a Drum Corp competition and I recommend it to anyone who loves music.

I've been a DCI fan since I was in high school. (I played the trumpet and then I was drum major for the last three years.) However, it had been a while since I had been to one of their programs. Then, last summer, I went to the annual DCI festival here in Dallas and it was terrific! It reminded me again how much I enjoyed it, but it was even better than before. I was particularly struck by the precision with which they executed some extremely intricate rhythmic patterns. This is not your basic 4/4 march . . . left foot, right foot.
A program of Bernard Hermann's music should really give them a chance to shine. I can't wait.
Thanks for the "heads up".

DCI is something familiar with for about 4 years. It is a fun thing to watch and listen to. Actually I am good friends with many people that are in DCI and friends with the coordinators of Magic of Orlando. I helped arrange the music for their last years show "Chuck Mangione". It was fun writing and arranging for a Drum and Bugle corp. Well, The Bernard Hermann show does not sound like a show The Blue Devils will do great at! I think the louder more jazzy shows accompany them well. Well, we will see!Aaron

Aaron:
If you know some of the Magic staff, maybe you could get them to update their website for heaven's sake!
Do you know what they're playing this year?

Well, they are having staff problems, so I have no idea who will be updating the site. The show is undecided and a lot of things are being thrown out. I am not writing any music for Magic, due to a lot of other music gigs for myself. When I find out I will let you know J. Peter.Later,
