Did anyone catch the new TNT version of A Christmas Carol? I thought it was okay... not the best adaptation I've seen. The directing was somewhat obvious, many of the supporting actors could have been better (although Cratchet was good), and the Ghost of Christmas Yet To Come looked pretty cheesy, but that was all made up for because Patrick Stewart's performance was, as always, beyond perfection.

Stephen Warbeck's score followed the film extremely well. It was classically oriented, and had many very beautiful parts to it. It was full of all the haunting melodies and sweeping cues one might expect. In short, it was pretty good. If you liked Shakespeare in Love, you'll probably like this one. The CD comes out on December 14 from Varese; given the track record of Hallmark scores, the CD should be pretty lengthy.

The score was above average, but there wasn't any tune that stuck in my head. I thought that it excelled in the softer moments. I must admit, though, that I was paying more attention to the always-excellent Sir Patrick Stewart.

I think the biggest television score surprise came from A Season of Miracles scored by Craig Safan. It was nice to see his name again. It was even more pleasant hearing his excellent score. Again, like he did with The Last Starfighter, he comes up with a theme that does not copy off of other works in the genre. It isn't as strong a theme as Starfighter and is much simpler(it was a holiday movie after all), but it is still a very original and memorable one.
I don't know of any release plans.
