Just caught the latest news on the Billboard charts....Metallica teamed with Michael Kamen and the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra on their latest album, "S&M!" I believe their collaboration is for the entire album, not just for single tracks. If anyone here who also listens to Metallica and of course the much beloved Kamen AND happened to pick this CD up care to recommend it, I am all ears!!

I don't know too much about Metallica except maybe I have heard one or two of their heavy-metal/hark rock hits, but it is quite interesting to note that symphonic/orchestra music is making a leap of sorts into mainstream.

I think there are several recent posts about the album. I'd reallt recommend it if you like big Kamen orchestrals and cool Metallica rock. It works extremely well. Ho and get it RIGHT NOW!

I heard this news last night. It looks to be great! I saw a video of Metallica with Michael Kamen not too long ago, and, if all of the tracks on the album are as good as the collaboration I heard, it should be a wonderful album.

I really like Metallica. A lot of heavy metal out there seems to be just incoherent noise with bad lyrics and lots of yelling and "thrashing," but Metallica is a gleaming exceptional. Their music is rythmic and melodic, and their lyrics actually mean something. "Unforgiven" is a perfect example.

I have not heard much of the S&M album, but what I have heard is very good. This CD has flown to the top of my music priorities. I already know Metallica works well with orchestral music... the cello quartet Apocalyptica has released two albums of Metallica music. It's good stuff.

P.S. Anyone want any Metallica MIDIs or Apocalyptica sound clips? E-mail me.

Oh yeah! It is so awesome! Since November, I've picked up the CD, and just the other day, I bought the video of the concert. I may buy the DVD version when it comes out as well.

The DVD will supposedly feature isolated tracks of 1)Metallica only 2)Symphony only. I haven't heard of a release day yet.

As for the CD itself, get it! I've purchased many Metallica albums over the past few months (Master of Puppets, Ride the Lightning S&M, and generally, I hate the sound quality of the older titles. This CD rocks, quite simply. One complaint is that on some songs, the symphony gets drowned out by the sheer noise. Fuel would be the prime example.

    Showstoppers:
    - Call of Ktulu (awesome instrumental)
    - Master of Puppets
    - The Memory Remains
    - Enter Sandman
    - Battery
    - One

I have just one complaint: Metallica's marvelous song "Unforgiven," which is heartbreaking even in its original version, did not make it to the concert/album.

Other than that, I thought it was great. I was already somewhat acquainted with Metallica's music before this, but now I don't see how I could possibly listen to the original versions again.

It is a really good album, more than worth picking up. "Nothing Else Matters" is probably my favorite track.
