The topic is simple, the answer is not so simple. With such a huge ammount of variety in this composer's capabilities, I thought it would be interesting to see which ones you liked the best! Here are my top 5's.1) Prince of Egypt (Chariot Race and The Burning Bush)
2) Black Rain (Nick and Masa)
3) The Lion King (This Land/King of Pride Rock)
4) The Rock (The Chase)
5) Backdraft (Show Me Your Firetruck)I listed my favorite tracks from their scores as well. The Chariot Race track from the Prince of Egypt can be found on the Promo CD available at local Wal-Mart stores.

I have Backdraft and the Rock, they are two of my favorite scores that zimmer has done. I am a Elfman fan too but I am still anxious to hear mission impossible to by Zimmer.Although Elfman should have done it.

Yeah thats a somple topic, but hard to answer.
Top 5 Hans Zimmer scores (and cues) that I really like are1. Fools of Fortune (The Island)<-- does anyone know about this score?! It's Brilliant, almost 100% orchestral and Zimmer conducts the orchesra, but yet no one ever mentions it!!
2. Backdraft (Fighting 17th/Show Me Your Fire Truck)
This is another good one that was popuplar, but I think most people have forgoten it.
BTW Fighting 17th was the first piece of music I heard from Zimmer.3. Beyond Rangoon (Brother Morphine)
I never heard anyone talk about this score before.
I think Brother Morphine would be perfect trailer music, but It never happened.4. Prince of Egypt (Burning Bush)
I thought in this one that Zimmer wrote the perfect theme for God.5. The Rock (Main Themes)
Who doesn't like the themes?posted 12-02-1999 10:33 PM PT (US)

But whats that have to do with anything?

Matt,
Gregson-Williams co-wrote the score with Gleenie-Smith.
Zimmer only wrote some themes.

Just saw TOYS on TV today...one of the two scores that are regrettably never going to be released as an original score album (the other being The Fan, which I forgot to mention now I think about it).Yeah, it's Harry Gregson-Williams, not JOHN Williams like Matt thought it was.
P.S. Matt--did you ever send me the "Trapped in Paradise" score?

1. Days of Thunder
2. The Rock
3. Crimson Tide
4. Drop Zone & Point of No Return (tie)
5. The Lion KingCan't comment on the other Zimmer scores as I don't have them, but I am planning to get Broken Arrow and The Peacemaker once I have watched them. And as for "The Fan", I just don't know whether to watch the movie or not (it will be shown on tv next week), 'cos there is no score release and I don't want to end up begging for it.

First of all, i didnt say John Williams. Second of all, if Gregson-Williams did so much of The Rock while Zimmer did not, why wasnt he given credit? This is the first i have ever heard of him having anything to do with The Rock.
and Norm: no, was i supposed to? I dont own that score...Will: you dont just not watch a movie cause there is no score release, jeez. oh, and if it is on network tv, skip it and rent it..they butcher everything.

Matt:Recognition of composition credit for The Rock differs a bit between the movie credits and the soundtrack credits. If I recall correctly, Zimmer and Gregson-Williams wrote the main and ending themes. Zimmer independantly wrote another piece or two and the rest of the score (majority) was written by Glennie-Smith and Gregson-Williams.
The movie titles only credit Zimmer and Glennie-Smith; however, the soundtracks credits composition to Zimmer, Gregson-Williams and Glennie-Smith. Regardless, Hans' influence is there, with everyone.
I always though it was interesting how much the Shuttle Crash cue (from Armageddon) and the Shower Room Massacre cue (from The Rock) sounded so much alike in terms of theme, style, instrumentation, etc. Both are Gregson-Williams..

Matt,
The Rock is mostly Nick Gleenie-Smiths score, it was supposed to be soley his, but he couldn't handle it all becuase of the time limit. So Gregson-Williams stepped in as a co composer. Then Zimmer comes along and helps them by writting a couple themes, for them to go by.
Now the reason why it says "Music By Hans Zimmer" in the opening of the movie was becuase Gleenie-Smith didn't wan't his name shown while Zimmer's music was playing in the background.References: (just in case you think thats all (B/S)

3. You said that's the first you've heard him (Gregson-Williams) have to anything with the Rock?
His name is on the CD!
... Well ok then.[This message has been edited by TimT (edited 12-05-99).]

Matt,Sorry if I assumed your were referring to John Williams. It's just that not too many Williams out there in the composing world who can be recognized with solely his last name.
If you are not the Matt that e-mailed me about the "Trapped in Paradise" score, then somehow there's TWO "Matt"s on this board. Is that even possible?
Anyway, ONE "Matt" had e-mailed me telling me that he was able to obtain the "Trapped in Paradise" score and was going to sell it to me. I gave him all the necessary info to send it to me, but never got any replies. Anyone here recognize this other "Matt?" (Now I check back, this other Matt did indeed have a different e-mail address than the Matt that is I am currently writing to)
By the way, does anyone know exactly what parts Zimmer composed for The Rock? How about Gregson-Williams or Glennie-Smith?

1. White Fang (that is, if he wrote it... there's even more confusion regarding who actually wrote this score than there is regarding The Rock)
2. The Lion King (a shame there's so little of it on CD)
3. The Prince of Egypt
4. Crimson Tide
5. need more educationTim,
I believe your references, but the opening credits of The Rock read "Music by Nick Glennie-Smith and Hans Zimmer."James
