Topic: What composer?

Ok,
from all the movies you've seen thus far, which one would you have liked to be composed by someone other than the actual composer.I would have liked Goldsmith to score Stigmata and The 6th Sense.
BTW: When is Williams ever going to score an animated feature?

I realize that it couldn't be done, but I would have wanted John Barry to do almost all the Bond films he didn't.I.E.
Live and Let Die
The Spy Who Loved Me (although I think Hamlisch did a good job... especially with "Bond 77")
For Your Eyes Only was good enough... I really liked Conti's score to that film.
License to Kill needed John Barry.
Goldeneye needed anyone but Serra... I wish Arnold came earlier.
I am perfectly happy with Tomorrow Never Dies and TWINE.
Arnold did a great job!posted 11-29-1999 03:25 PM PT (US)

How about Alan Silvestri for Tarzan (not the animated).

Although Broughton's "Lost in Space" is a gem in itself, and Silvestri's "Judge Dredd" is great, I would have loved to see what Goldsmith would have done with these... too bad he backed out of both projects.Jeron

Although Shakespeare in Love was a good score (but not Oscar worthy IMHO), there is another composer I would much rather have composed for the movie. Tears, humor, love, tragedy, lovers destroyed by prearranged marriage, all set in the Renaissance... it sounds to me like a movie written specifically for George Fenton. I say again, SIL was a good score, but I believe Fenton could have done an even better job (perhaps worthy of the award).James

SIL was a brilliant score, i have never seen a score work better in a movie, WHICH IS WHAT COUNTS PEOPLE. Im afraid James, that i shall be forced to kill you.
Not oscar worthy my ass...god!Ooh, i belive that Elfman was the wrong choice for Edward Scissorhands, i would have to go with Horner on that one. Horrible score, blech.

as before, that comment was made purely for SFT's amusement and does not necessarily reflect the opinions of this commentator.NP: Princess Mononoke, 5/5.

Matt,
Why don't you like the score to Edward Scissorhands? This is one of my favorites of all time. I thought it was almost perfection for the movie if not that already.I liked the score to SIL, but I don't think it was brilliant. If any score that was nominated last year deserved to win the Oscar, it was The Thin Red Line. I'm just interested in knowing how a person could consider SIL to be brilliant, yet at the same time, think Edward Scissorhands was crap.
This just bugs me.

fist of all, the 2 scores, TRL and SIL were in different categories. they werent in competition.
Second of all, Edward Scissorhands is one of my favorite scores and is Elfman's best(IMHO), which is why i made that comment. didnt you read my disclaimer?

Sorry about that Matt,I didn't read that. I was just amazed to see that there in front of my eyes.
Oops... they were in different catagories... I guess I was so mad at the Academy at the time with their picks for winners that I didn't pay much attention.
Again,
My apologies.posted 12-02-1999 12:39 PM PT (US)

I wanted to see what Vangelis or Kenji Kawaii would do for an explosively artsy & campy film like "The 5th Element". I don't dislike Eric Serra's score at all though.

Advanced apologies to SFT, but in light of what he did with "Dracula," I would have liked to have seen what Philip Glass would have done with "Sleepy Hollow."Not that it would have been better. It just would be interesting to know.

In that case, I'll give my two cents in...
Would have loved to see what Williams would have done with Hollow (probably would be in the neighborhood of Dracula or The Fury).Scott
