I agree 100%!!! If Burton is ever to win an Oscar, this is the movie for it! The cinematography, the acting, the effects, the keep-you-guessing plot (which BTW owes little to the original story), it was all fantastic! And of course Danny music works extremely well, and is also a great compliment to the movie. It makes the film seem epic instead of rural which is what a lesser score probably would have done. Oh, and look for the Bettlejuice homage at the end.James

a message for NORMAN McCAY...(this may or may not contain a spoiler, depending on how accurate your imagination might be; you have been warned)
I notice in one of the other topics you said that you thought the headless horseman effects look kind of cheesy in the trailers... I have to tell you that almost every part of the horseman you see in the trailers is from *one scene* and in that *one scene* there is a *good reason* that the effects look cheesy. The movie is very good, and the horseman effects are grade A+.

This movie was incredible.I had not heard the entire score until I saw the movie, but now I obviously have. This is one of the most perfect matches ever. I would have said the Batman was the best Elfman score ever, until this one. The Horseman's theme is awesome. This is one of the best movies/scores ever. I can't believe how incredible it was! Go see it, everyone!

It was interesting how, there was not less than 30 sec of the movie that didn't have score, or some type of music in the background.

I thought the movie was amazing (VERY VERY Burton) but I have to admit I was dissapointed in the lack of theme music which is so often peppered throughout Elfman/Burton films.

I can't believe so many people are not hearing a theme in Sleepy Hollow. There are actually two that are very dominant, and both play in the main titles. One is Ichabods, and plays during all of his dreams and flashbacks. The other is the headless horseman theme, best heard in the track "The Story..." starting at about 1:07. The more I listen to it, the more these two themes stick out and become more and more dominant. There are also lots of motifs that pop up here and there. I can't really pin a love theme yet though, even though I can definatly feel one is there, I can't hum it yet, like I can the others. I'm sure I'll get it soon though. Its strange. On first listen, this felt like one of Elfmans least complex works. Now I'm starting to think its one of his most complex.BTW: Awesome flick! Christopher Walken was is gonna be remembered for the small role in Sleepy Hollow more than any of his other roles...I guarantee it.

Capt. Howdy, I totally agree. The first time I listened to the score (and wrote the review) I mistakenly thought I heard three themes - Ichabods, The Horsemans, and a love theme - but as I listened to the score more, something slapped me in the face... THEY WERE ALL THE SAME THEME! It's absolutely ingenious the way Elfman twists it into its different situations. And I finally did notice that second theme for Ichabod. I've listened to this score at least five times the whole way through since I got it... maybe more will pop up?James
NP - humming Sleepy Hollow themeP.S. Scott, I agree with you on your end of the world view. Maybe this will start an argument. Or should i should I be typing German?

Hmm, the upcoming switch to the Y2K is kinda all screwed up here in England, hows it like in other places of the world folks? Here people are being put off due to everything being so expensive on new years eve.
In London, on this night, cab drivers are gonna charge you an extra £16 because they're working on new years eve, and a trip down 6 blocks in a cab will come to about £25!!!!! Everything is going up in price for that night!Everyone's wanting to stay home.... People will look back on the entry into the year 2000 years from now and realise how much money truly ruled peoples lives!!! ack!
Computer and Millenium Bug wise I've no idea if this thing (my pc) is going to work, er, anyways to check?

Dallas/Garland is Y2k compliant, that's all I care about. Cities need to get their priorities straight!Dan, you need to go to the "Windows Update" on the Microsoft Website and d/l any Y2k related updates that are available. That's pretty much all you can do. They sell hardware that you can supposedly add to your system, making your computer Y2k compliant, but that's all BS. I work at Best Buy - and I know all about that stuff... don't waste your money.
BTW- I saw Sleepy Hollow last night... I wouldn't say it's Burton's best, but it is still absolutely awesome. Effects are grade A+, Depp's acting is superb, and I agree that Christopher Walken will be remembered for his role! Great film, definitely don't miss it while it is on the big screen.

Hmmm, where to beging?James, glad you agree. Won't type in German might result in bodily harm, if you know what I mean.

Jeron,
your post most defenetly was heartwarming. We love you too. As far as values (the modern substitute for morals?) is concerned: I consider myself to have very high values. Religion: Don't practice religion, don't like religion, don't need religion.Dan,
to be sure your computer is Y2K complient there are several ways to do this. Jeron's suggestion is excellent, which just goes to show how smart he is. Sedcond, if you're computer was manufactured before 1996 chances are it's NOT complient. Third, change the date on your computer to January 1st 2000 and see if it starts, if it doesn't, guess what, it's not complient. To start it again go into the bios and change the date again. If you have no idea what I'm talking about...forget it.

The website you want to visit is:http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/
I think that it only works for those who have Windows 98 installed, so... if you don't, that is something else you may want to consider. Who knows though - I faintly recall being able to access it from a Win95 workstation.
Hope this helps!

Talk about dissapointing. I love Burton, and this film should have been great, but what a let down. It never catches fire....i spent more time thinking about how cool the teaser for M:I2 that i saw before the movie was. and the "great" fight that ray park did? barely comparable with Darth Maul..it lasted 5 seconds people. I expect a lot more from Burton, and im hoping his next flick will be much better.
Elfman's score was good, but it was one of the more forgettable scores he has done. Loved the set design tho.....
Edward Scissorhands remains to be Burton's best movie, and Elfman's best score. THAT was a movie that deserved oscars, but this one sure as hell didnt.
Movie: 2.5 stars out of 4. Im not gonna buy the score so i wont review that.NP: Edward Scissorhands: 5/5

I'm listening to the Sleepy Hollow score. You know what? I'm trying to get "into it," but honestly, I think the score is too loud at times, trying to outdo the movie. The main theme is very implicit, not as obvious as a Batman or a Beetlejuice. You have to listen carefully. It's there though. The more mellow tracks have a better feel to them, as though Elfman put more thought into these than he did with the rest of the CD. I understand that some of the occasional loud fanfares fit the mood and all, but still. It was too much to handle at times; more like a raucous Goldenthall track from one his lesser scores (like A Time to Kill.) It just seems to be missing some sort of emotional structure (but then again, I'm no musician.) At least the other Elfman scores that I have (and others that I don't own but have listened to, like A Simple Plan, Men In Black and Good Will Hunting) I really enjoyed. No doubt Elfman is great with movies. Hell, I just ordered the Beetlejuice CD yesterday! Don't be offended by any of this, please. I still liked the movie (***/*****), but not as much as most of you guys. I just don't think the score (**1/2/****) is either the best thing Elfman has put out in a while nor the best part of Sleepy Hollow. Sorry. Kudos to Burton though.[This message has been edited by Aaron Hose (edited 11-24-99).]
