Ok Fellow Forum-ners, let's see if you can nail these. They should't be too hard:

    1. What links Graeme Revell and Danny Elfman?

    2. Fill in the blank:

I'm the most overrated in a family of composers. My voice is annoying as all Hell, and I will never win an Academy Award. I only get noiminated because the members of the Academy like "rodents." My name is__________

    3. Name the "Four John's" (I will accept more than four)

    4. Name the only living composer/editor (at least I think he's the only living one...)

    5. I track through the forest , encounter robots and weird beings , slaughter humans, and inhabit machines from outer space. Who am I ?(2)(I know what you're thinking)

    6. I've won an Oscar, not because my score was better than all the other nominees', but out of sympathy from the Academy, because my film had no chance in any of the other categories. Who am I?

    Good luck.

    - A.

    1. Scored movies based on 60's telvision spy shows? (i.e., "The Saint", "Mission: Impossible")

    2. Randy Newman

    3. John Williams, John Debney, John Barry, John Carpenter, John Ottman, John Powell, John Frizzell (more than 4, but i hope i've picked the obvious choices.)

    4. Also John Ottman. (also director.)

    5. Christopher Young?

    6. Il Postino.

    1. I agree with Lancelot.

    2. I have a feeling you're hinting at Randy Newman...

    3. (If I get this one wrong, I've entered the Twilight Zone.)
    John Addison
    John Barry
    John Beal
    John Cacavas
    John Carpenter
    John Corigliano
    John Debney
    John Du Prez
    John Frizzell
    John Morris
    John Ottman
    John Powell
    John Scott
    John Williams

    4. John Ottman

    5. Hmm... tough one. Chris Young is a nice choice. But I'd also have to guess Richard Band and Jerry Goldsmith. And maybe Chris Stone. Hmm...

    6. That Italian composer... I can't remember his name... Do you mean Il Postino or Life is Beautiful... or both?

    James
NP - Shakespeare in Love (****)

    1. Vowels man, its all about the vowels.
    2. Pleasantville was brilliant, so **** you.(that a good enough answer?)
    3. Williams, Powell, Ottman, and Debney
    4. Ottman..just noticed that 2 nights ago when i watched Usual Suspects.
    5. Ehh?
    6. Il Postino, not Life is Beautiful, since that won others.

What's wrong with Randy Newman? Alright, so he's done too many cartoons but his scores to Awakenings, Parenthood and Pleasantville? Even his rejected score to Air Force One was great, too.

The itallian composer who scored Il Postino was Luis Bacalov, I think...

Well guys, I'll jump the gun...

    1. Yes-both scored TV series-based films (Saint/Mission: Impossible), but they also scored films from the Psycho series.
    2. Yep...Randy Newman.
    3. You're all right... Williams, Barry, Powell, Ottman, Frizzell, Carpenter, Debney, etc.
    4. John Ottman
    5. Luis Bacalov (Il Postino) AND Anne Dudley (The Full Monty)

This one's kind of senseless, but here it is...

I track through the forest (Saving Private Ryan/E.T./Raiders of the Lost Ark/Temple of Doom), encounter robots and weird beings(Star Wars/Close Encounters of the Third Kind), slaughter humans (Amistad/Sshindler's List/Jaws), and inhabit machines from outer space ('any' Star Wars)---Duh!!! John Williams!

    Other variations I would accept:

Track through the forest - James Horner (Willow); Basil Pouledoris (Jungle Book); Jerry Goldsmith (First Knight/Congo)
Encounter robots and weird beings - James Horner (Aliens); Basil Pouledoris (Robocop/Starship Troopers); Jerry Goldsmith (Star Trek/Alien)
Slaughter humans - James Horner (Glory); Basil Pouledoris (Robocop/Starship Troopers/Conan: The Barbarian); Jerry Goldsmith (The Omen/Basic Instinct/Congo)
And inhabit machines from outer space - James Horner (Cocoon/Aliens/one of the Star Trek's); Basil Pouledoris (Starship Troopers); Jerry Goldsmith (any of 'his' Star Trek's)

How would Christopher Young fit in? Hmmm...Let me see:

Track through the forest - Species (?)
Encounter robots (Virtousity) and werid beings (Species/Hellraiser)
Slaughter humans (Again, Species/Tales From the Hood/Hellraiser I-II/Elm Street 2)
Inhabit machines from outer space - Invaders from Mars

Well, well... I guess this one works too!!

If you can place any other composer (which I'm sure you can) within this context, you get bonus points!!!
    Nuff sed.

    Here's another one:

Track through the forest - Forrest Gump/Predator
Encounter robots and weird beings - Back to the Future II/Predator/Contact/The Abyss
Slaughter humans - Predator I and II
And inhabit machines from outer space - Contact/Predator

    Damn...I made myself think!

How does Predator fit in with the "machines from outer space?" Simple...Look at the beginning (Spaceship flies past frame dropping the bad-a** predator) in Aliens, Ripley starts out in the pod, remember? And in Cocoon, rmember the spaceship?!?!? Geez, guys.

that hardly seems like a good example....oooooh, 3 seconds of screen time.
PS: Ripley's pod was built on earth, therefore it isnt "from" outer space. so there
