Don't know why, but I have taken quite a liking to the black and white movies from the Golden Age of Hollywood, specifically the 1930s. I have been taking a class in The History of American Cinema, and became extremely fascinated by Frank Capra's Mr. Smith goes to Washington....and I read awhile back about Citizen Kane having a reissue of the Bernard Hermann score. Then I tried looking for a score release for Mr. Smith, but was unsuccesful.I believe some of the music from Mr. Smith was also in Casablanca. Does anyone know exactly where these cues originated from? I apologize for being very vague...but it's a somewhat patriotic melody from the intro of Casablanca, and it was also in Mr. Smith. But I may be wrong....
One LAST thing. There was one theme from Mr. Smith that I simply can't get over...the part when Jeff talks to Senator Joe Paine on the train to Washington, and there was an underscore for their conversation, and this theme was reprised when Jeff mesmerizes Clarissa with his innocent speech about Willet Creek. Help!!
Alright, I lied. One MORE thing--how come Mr. Smith goes to Washington is NOT on DVD when older silent movies and comedies like Griffith's Intolerance and Keaton/Chaplin features are flooding the DVD market? It seems all the other classics I have watched in class are on DVD, except for Mr. Smith goes to Washington!!!
