Isn't this sequel animated? I thought I heard something about them making the sequel an animated movie.

Nope, this one is live action.

Mark McKenzie apparently just finished the score for the sequel. According to his fan site (I forget the address), Varese Sarabande will release the score sometime in 2000. I don't know if this is true or not. I also don't know when the video will be released. I'm anxious to see what McKenzie has done, and whether he has used any of the themes from the original.

This may be Mark McKenzie's first time at composing, all i can find on his background is a lot of orchestrations, no scoring.
Additional info, I believe video release is sometime this month, November 1999.

Universal just finished filming the sequel to Dragonheart!! The sequel is going to be called DRAGONHEART: A new beginning and it will be a
    direct to home video movie.

It was filmed once again in Slovakia from September - November of last year.

Director: Doug Lefler (pilots to the Herkules, Xena series)
    Main role: Chris Masterson

Plot: And hatchling dragon - the "son" of Draco (Drake). The egg was rescued by Gilbert (Pete Postlethwaite). In a castle, after long years in his "prison" he is found
by a young man (Masterson) and Masterson's character wants to fly the dragon. But the young dragon can't fly!!! (Will go more into the plot as soon as I hear more)

So my Dragonheart loving friends, I'll be sure to keep you all updated on this as soon as I learn more. *Snuff sniff* Makes Draco's death all that much harder... He
gave his life knowing that he had a hatchling but wouldn't tell Bowen or any other of his friends, knowing that if he did, Bowen would never of been able to slay him. .

FYI, McKenzie is an amazing composer, in my opinion. He has written scores such as Durango and The Disappearance of Garcia Lorca. Recommended.

Mark McKenzie is not new to composing, and he's definitely a great composer! Here's his filmography (this is all from memory, so it could be slightly off):

Sons of Darkness: To Die For 2
    Warlock 2: The Armageddon
    My Family
    Down Periscope (additional music)
    Frank and Jesse ****
Dr. Jekyll and Ms. Hyde ****
The Disappearance of Garcia Lorca ***** (incredible!)
    Durango ***** (also incredible!)

He's definitely worth seeking out, especially in the case of those last two. Lorca and Durango are absolutely beautiful. IMHO, any film score enthusiast unfamiliar with his music should become familiar with it ASAP.

I agree with James, except that I would give Frank & Jesse 5 *'s (Intrada sells this one for $3.99).

The word on Dragonheart is that McKenzie has done a terrific job, using some of Edelman's now classic themes and incorporating some new ones, this time in a fully orchestrated production. This is one to look forward to!
