    Scott, I rarely disagree with you....so I won't! Herrmann had more than enough chops to handle LOTR....Herrmann's 'The Balrog'?....I shudder to think!

    Kilar would have been great, I also think Basil Poledouris would have handled this nicely, I believe he was quoted as saying this would have been a dream job for him?! with that kind of commitment how could he have failed. After all the doubting here on the boards we should all be thankful that Howard Shore delivered a great score!

    I'm sure Herrmann could have composed a musically great score. But would it be as much about what LOTR is about as Shore's is? When I rewatched FOTR today, I noticed another clever touch: The Adunaic chorus motif for the Ringwraiths is used for the (ex-)Numenorean army in the prologue. Very clever!
