This is one on the best scores ever written. I think itīs really a landmark among filmscores along with Bernard Herrmannīs PSYCHO, Maurice Jarreīs LAWRENCE OF ARABIA to name a few. I bought this score last year but never commented on it. It has everything, from its mysterious beginning, to the scary kidnapping scene to the beautiful finale, John Williams wrote a wonderful score that deserves to be called a masterpiece.

I agree with you fully Hector. This movie is also a landmark film. This movie utilizes John Williams grandiose score. I think Psycho is definitely overated. Now don't get me wrong, it is a awesome score and it definitely gets under your skin. But, I think many of John Williams's scores are right up there with Psycho.

"Close Encounters" is one of William,s "classic" scores. The music is equally scary, beautiful, exciting, atmospheric and has one of most famous 5 note motifs that almost everyone on the planet must recognise. Interestingly Williams tried about 2-300 different 5 note motifs before settling on the final one, and he said in an interview that originally that 5 note motif was as remote as all the others and yet it was the one that he and Spielberg kept coming back to (and look how well known it is now). Definately a classic...and I also think its William's own personal favourite...am I right anybody? Gae NP Dracula(by whats-his-name? I can never remember)

PSYCHO underrated? Hmmmm...most of the time, peole tend to UNDERRATE it.

And some of Williams and Goldsmiths scores to get to much credit once in a while. BUT I do agree about Close Encounters!

Thatīs right Gae, in an interview with Charlie Rose he said that if he had to choose from his own scores as his favorite, CLOSE ENCOUNTERS is the one that he usually goes to, then SCHINDLERīS LIST.

NP. Night and Day. Celebrate Sinatra!(John Williams/The Boston Pops)****
