Well, I'd have to say based on the track listings that it's not the complete score. Hopefully there'll be a special addition dvd. But I'll definately be getting the soundtrack. I really like David Arnold's music.

I walked in on my sister watching MTV today, and just before I could say "Why do watch this garbage?" I heard the VJ announce "Now, the TRL premiere of 'The World is Not Enough'"... by Garbage, of course. Anyway, I decided to watch it, and aside from being a very weird music video, I thought the song was okay. Very similar to TND. The same electronic beat, similar melody, only this time there was a full symphony orchestra backing everything, and it sounded (IMHO) a lot more congruent to score music than TND. I think if the song is any indication, the score will be awesome, albeit not really anything new. But maybe the song isn't an indication. Anyone else seen it?

Yup - just watched the music video online at MTV.com... interesting place they have there. Anyways, it's cool! It's definitely very cool - I loved how they used the v/fx technology pioneered in "Star Trek: First Contact" to piece Shirley Manson together. And is it just me, or does Shirley look a bit like Uma Thurman (just a little bit)?

I can't wait to see how the video parallels with the movie. Ya know, how once you see the movie, then watch the video again, some of it starts to make sense. I guess we'll see!

Can't wait for the cd release. What is it, we've got 20 days until Nov. 9th? Let the countdown begin!

NP - Larger than Life, BSB (forgive me, cool song though)

You guys get the best scoops! I missed the Making of the Video for TWINE. However, in related news, the new best of bond cd from Capitol features GoldenEye and TND. It only omits "007" from the track list established with the Bond 30th anniversary edition released in 1992. Not a tremendous loss, but a shame all the same. There would have beenplenty of room for it. ALSO! NEWS FLASH! MISSION IMPOSSIBLE 2 news:
Hollywood Records is releasing it, Hans Zimmer is officially doing the score, and Glen Ballard and Hans have written a track together for the songs album. With Hollywood, it will be very likely that a separate score album will be available.

Cheers, fellow spybuffs!

Although it's looking as if yeah, that aint the full score, it looks to me that this is a better produced CD then TND. It seems here we're getting music that spans the movie from begining to end if you know what I mean, where as the released TND score release stopped at the half way point of the movie, never letting us own the music that accompanied the latter half of the feature.

Hehe, I just realised how close we are to this scores release an indeed, the movies release. Getting real excited now!!!

Dan (UK)

PS: We can always petition for an isolated score on the DVD slated for a May 2000 release if unsatisfied with the CD. Heheh

Wednesday, November 10th, we will present our [rather lengthy]
interview with David Arnold and a big chunk of the discussion centers on The World Is Not Enough, and the choice of Garbage as the group for the main theme. I personally like the song and the video is pretty cool...although it doesn't have scenes from the movie, the special effects are wild.

The really fun part of the interview is when David talks about a very recent tribute to John Barry in which he got to perform "We Have All The Time in the World" for John as part of the evening's events.

It should be an imformative interview for Arnold fans as he really talks about everything

Another Bond composer, Eric Serra shares the spotlight with Arnold in November, but the main focus with Eric is The Messenger, the new Joan of Arc film from Luc Besson. But of course, Eric talks about his disappointment with how the score for Goldeneye turned out....

Tune in on November 10th, just before The Messenger and TWINE opens in theatres, and find out what the composers did for these two films.

Just read that review, man, thats not good. I can already see this could be a score we're gonna petition be isolated on dvd, be released in it's full form...etc, probably go to silly lengths to get a promo, I dunno.

Ack, only 2 complete apperances of the bond theme, grrrrrrr, ack, ack, ACK! However, I do like the two real audio clips on offer, and maybe their review is being a tad too harsh here, as the "Come in 007, your time is Up" track appears to be a bit from the boat chase scene I saw and loved, and I STILL love what I am hearing!

Frankly I still look forward to this more then ever, and especially so when I read reviews of the movie like this one:

http://www.aint-it-cool-news.com/display.cgi?id=4604

..where the reviewer starts off by saying how great the score is and how much they NEED to own it.

Me again Just discovered this, which I think is of interest over at the excellent www.ianfleming.org website:

quote:
007 NEWS has now learned that the Scott Walker song that is on the TWINE soundtrack will not be in the movie. The song that plays over the closing credits will either be a re-mix of the Garbage title song or an
instrumental version.

For Tomorrow Never Dies, k.d. Lang's Surrender ushered audiences out of the theater and when the track list came out for the TWINE soundtrack, every indication was that the last song titled "Only Myself to Blame" would do the same.

The song however got in the album after David Arnold
and Don Black decided to put lyrics to a melody they
had written for a casino scene in the film. Thus, Scott
Walker, of Walker Brothers fame, will croon "Only Myself
To Blame" on the CD.

I'm curious... why would the artwork be different? Sounds like that wouldn't be very cost efficient when the contents of the cd are identical.

Just my two cents.

Here is our review of The World is Not Enough...in short FANTATSIC. I am a HUGE fan of Arnold's orchestral work and electronic work, as well as his producing efforts with singers, so I found this album to be completely satisfying...

---------------------------------

ScoreLogue Web Magazine (http://www.scorelogue.com)
Review for The World Is Not Enough
Music by David Arnold
**** (4 out of 4 stars)
The World Is Not Enough may very well be the best James Bond score John Barry never composed. John Barry would be pleased though as David Arnold firmly takes hold of the 007 franchise and brings Bond into the new millennium with terrific confidence. The World Is Not Enough is an exhilarating experience on CD with a forward momentum all its own.

Arnold’s previous Bond effort Tomorrow Never Dies was a fine score and proved that the composer was more than up to the task at hand. Arnold also played it safe in some parts by relying on the famous Bond theme but to great avail. With World, David Arnold comes into his own as a Bond composer by taking more than a big risk, he jumps off a cliff without a parachute and thankfully lands on both feet. His music is both daring and exciting, while at the same time, his use of electronic and orchestral music is both fun and sensual. First comes the new theme song performed by Garbage, in what becomes a huge departure for the rock driven band, not used to such vivid orchestrations. Arnold’s arrangements are top notch and automatically one is reminded of his fine producing talents with other female voices like Bjork, Aimee Mann, k.d. lang and Chrissie Hynde. Shirley Manson’s voice may lack some strong confidence in vocal ranges but she makes up for that with sheer attitude and Arnold leads the way. “Show Me the Money” starts ofF the album with a hint of techno thrust and ends with a tantalizing taste of the Bond theme piece which bleeds into a truly Y2K compliant electronic and ultra-techno take on the old bond cue, “Come in 007, Your Time is Up.” Arnold’s confidence here is very apparent and again it seems as though the composer has made the serial his own with his own unique talents.

Following suit are fine action cues that generously blend some of Arnold’s best electronic work and his best orchestral writing since Last of the Dogmen. Hints of Dogmen’s beauty pop up in “Elektra’s Theme,” a jazz-enriched piano love theme that anchors the CD with a more intellectual tone that best describes the pace of the film. This Bond score is a smarter effort with a somewhat darker and more mature sound to it similar to the departure John Barry made with On Her Majesty’s Secret Service. Some of Arnold’s more emotionally gripping writing here also brings to mind his haunting score to Young Americans in the way both compositions mixed sleek electronics with lush orchestral themes.

Then there is the huge action payoff here for all Bond fans of the best chases, gunplay, and sabotage. The middle of the album is driven by a kinetic energy the composer develops with some inspired and groundbreaking synth sounds not heard before in a Bond score. Instead of monotonous electronic noise, the pace is set by three cues of satisfying and melodic synth material, “Body Double,” “Going Down - The Bunker,” and “Pipeline.” And as “Elektra’s Theme” gives the score its intellectual soul, these three cues contribute to the on the go Bond we all know and love.

“Submarine” is the big 10+ action cue that ends the CD, (before one last love theme “Christmas in Turkey”) and the long piece again becomes a stirring mix of fine orchestral movement with Arnold’s signature electronic feast for the senses.

The final song by Scott Walker, “Only Myself to Blame” is the biggest disappointment that has, thankfully been cut from the film. This pseudo-jazz interpretation fails due to Walker’s voice, which is not clearly up to the task (think Sid Vicious doing Frank Sinatra) and the non-thematic music that can’t carry the drama or excitement from the score or give Bond a suitable end.

David Arnold’s score is perfect for the car and/or at a higher volume and it is a must for film music fans. Just skip that last song!

Jeron,

It happens dude, the cover art here will just showcase the International poster art, simply because thats the image everyone here notices, not the US poster. It happens with scores sometimes, our Braveheart artwork is different for instance.
