I beat you to the punch this time Scott...

Alright, what is the best scary music?

    I like:

    The Omen
    Bram Stroker's Dracula

Those are the only really scary music that I know of.

Ooh... one of my favorite categories!

Halloween H20 a.k.a. Portrait of Terror (John Ottman) I love Ottman's arrangement of the Halloween theme, and the original music is really scary. Especially the track "Rest Stop."

Dolores Claiborne (Danny Elfman) One of Elfman's earliest ventures into his "new" style, and I love it. Its unstable but enticing.

The Pit and the Pendulum (Richard Band) Here's the scene: A high priest is having himself whipped for his crimes. The accomanying music? Dissonant strings play over a male church chorus hauntingly chanting "Alleluia, alleluia..." That plus lots of other great choral stuff.

There are more, but those three are my favorites.

    James

I would´nt exactly call Dolores Claiborne a "scary" movie, like Halloween etc. but I see your point James. And YES, it is BRILLIANT!!! One of my alltime favorites!... It is filled with a psychological tension that puts even the best works of Herrmann to shame!

I would also nominate NightBreed, Halloween, Scream/Scream 2, Psycho (of course!), The Omen and...
my favorite Halloween music is: The Nightmare Before Christmas!

"This is Halloween, this is Halloween
pumpkins scream in the dead of night"

    I LOVE IT!

This is a good topic, although a tuff one for me. I have MANY horror scores, because I love horror. So here are a few of my faves, but I can't really place them in any order.

    Omen
    Hellraiser
I Know What You Did Last Summer
    H2O
    Scream
    Pet Semetary

Ooh, and definately Show Girls, very scary!
