I live in a very small town right now (only 8 months left to live here thank God) and have to order most of my music off of the internet. Occasionally though I goto a local video store that also sells CDs and check there before I get online and make my purchases. Usually they have nothing but inspired by soundtracks, but occasionally they supprise me and get an actual score in their bins. I was looking for the score to Deep Blue Sea. Needless to say they didn't have it. On my way out the owner of the store goes, "Didn't find what your looking for eh Dave."
"No," I replied.
Inqusitivly the owner asks,"What were you looking for?"
"The score album to Deep Blue Sea," knowing that he will now tell me they have it. And he did. But it was the R&B hip hop album.
"No," I said, "the SCORE album."
With a look of disgust and a shake of his head he replies, "Oh......Scores are for punks."
I get that 'whatever' look on my face and just say, "Nice," I proceed to open the door to make my exit.
Then he starts to yell in a frantic I just lost some money kind of tone,"I could special order that for you!"
"No thanks, it would be cheaper and faster for me to order it from Amazon.com or somewhere else on the web."I guess my point to this story is: If I were to have said that I was looking for the latest release to Britney Sprears(not that I would buy her stuff but she is quite the looker ain't she.) or Kid Rock he wouldn't have blinked an eye. Somthing deep down in most people find it goofy or repulsive that we like this genre of music. Its musical bigotry I tell you. And I for one will not stand for it. Don't let anyone put you down or skoff at you for your musical tastes. Let those sheep get pushed and pulled by every music fad thats out there while we graze happily in our little corner of the pasture.

I agree.
At firsts when I told people I collect soundtracks they would have the same response (although no one ever called me a punk because of it). Now I play certain scores for people if I can and this has resulted in my two nephews and countless other people in paying more attention to this craft.
My nephews and I regularly attend concerts at the Hollywood Bowl (every year especially with John Williams and this year even Jerry Goldsmith).
I think if we play some scores to the nay sayers and take some time in explaining this craft instead of getting frustrated and ready to start world war III, perhaps we could get more people educated in soundtracks and increase our little group.
Just a few thoughts.

Pay no heed. Just narrow-minded nimrods that wouldn't know good music if it came and bit their butt.Fortunately, the people I associate don't put me down for my love of film music, and most of them are into it themselves.
