Here's my problem:OUT OF AFRICA and SOMEWHERE IN TIME. These are two scores which I have wanted for a very long time, but I don't know which versions to get. The Varese re-recordings are obviously longer, but I've always been somewhat annoyed at the "concert hall ambience" which plague most of their re-recordings. What's the best route to take?

I've got the original Out Of Africa, and all I can tell you is that it is excellent. I'm not sure what they could have added to it. I haven't heard the re-recording, but when the original is so good (performance and fidelity-wise) I have the tendency to go with the original. Then again there have been some great re-recordings of Barry's work (e.g. Moviola).NP: Frank And Jesse (McKenzie) *****

I have the original recordings of both Out of Africa and Somewhere in Time. I jumped at the chance to purchase the re-recordings... and *was not* dissapointed. You don't get the "concert hall" ambience you are talking about. They've done a very good job of mimicing the sound clarity and appeal of the original albums... and believe me when I say they *DO* rival the originals.Regarding the previously unreleased cues on the Varese re-recordings, well - they are great. If you are a completist or simply love the music from either of the movies, grab these albums. I can't stress it enough, you will not be disappointed.
