Ok, I've read too much about this movie and seen too much not to inquire about it's soundtrack, even though the score will be composed by Bill Conti. The man's overblown score for For Your Eyes Only was too disco, and Masters of The Universe was better than that film deserved. In any case, anybody know a release date on the score, considering I'll probably like this movie so much I'll want the score. Come on, this is Rene Russo we're talkin' about here!

Are you sure it's Conti doing the score? I just saw the poster yesterday and I don't remember that the name was Bill Conti. At any rate, the poster said "adaptation," so I'm guessing that whoever's doing it is adapting Michel Legrand's original score.[This message has been edited by S Smith (edited 07-22-99).]

Crono, SSmithThanks for the tips. I've checked out the site several times prior to coming here with little success in finding any info. In regards to the posters I've seen, it simply said "Music by Bill Conti". Unless new posters have arrived and I've seen the old news out. At the same time, there have been several poster, same design, picture and credits, and it has no Music by credit. Wierd. Keep me posted, fellas.

I've heard it's sneaking on the 24th, but unfortunately,
My parents are in town and our plans are divergent from the sneak preview. However- August 6th rolls around and it's all mine.Aud: This film features Pierce Brosnan as Thomas Crown (a role besides James Bond he was born to play), and is directed by John McTiernan (Die Hard, etc.). I've read in Creative Screenwriting that it is a much better script than the original and should blow the roof off. Doesn't take a slide rule to see how this one's going to pop up. Even if the box office isn't what people expected, it's still going to rock.

Maybe the changed the music. Maybe the posters Widescreen saw WERE the new posters. Come on. They've been advertising this film for quite some time, and the original release date I saw (once upon a time) was June 18. Maybe they made some changes to the film. Or maybe I read the poster wrong <oops>.Anyway, I'm gonna try to go to the sneak preview tomorrow, so I'll throw out an update if I do.
For those of you that don't know, "Thomas Crown Affair" is actually a remake of a Steve McQueen/Faye Dunaway flick from (I think) 1968. The original was quite fun. It's a cool story, I just hope the remake does it justice. I think the casting will work. I can definitely see Brosnan and Russo in the main roles. But like I said, hopefully it's adapted well.

Alright, I'll be the first to admit it. I screwed up and read the poster wrong. The "adaptation" on the poster I saw was story adaptation. Bill Conti does do the music, and it's original.Widescreen, I'll alleviate your fears and tell you it's definitely not disco (although I know what you're talking about with "For Your Eyes Only).
The score: Um. It's pretty good. Some parts are better than others. It's kind of jazzy, kind of bluesy. Parts of it had solo trumpet with sounded sort of Goldsmith-ish ("Chinatown"/"L.A. Confidential). And no, I'm not accusing him of ripping JG off. I just said that so you'd have an idea of what I was talking about. Then there was a sax solo I really didn't care for. I think the opening title sequence was the best part of the score. Heavy use of piano in a jazzy, mystery sort of way. Then there was a recapitulation of that same style later in the film which I thought was used effectively. But like I said, the score itself is O.K. Not horrible, but not great.
As far as the movie goes, it was a lot of fun. For those of you that have seen the original and want to compare, you may not like it. I think the original film played the whole cat-and-mouse game better than this one, but I think that this film had more style than the original.
Anybody else see it yet?

SSmith,Thanks for the heads up. I really like L.A. Confidential, so as a basis for comparison, it may have a lot to live up to, or it will just stand on it's own.
I'm looking forward to finding out. I'm not much into the original, but I like the look of this new movie. Almost too excited to wait until August 6th. Did you see any soundtrack listing for it at all?posted 07-26-1999 06:58 AM PT (US)

Does any one know if this score will be released, please!?! It's driving me crazy that I've lloked all over the internet, and no one has any listing or even information on the score except for an interview with Conti in Film Score Monthly

Hey there all
,
I just got back from seeing the movie and it was "OK." As to the score it well, sucked in my opinion. It was really jazzy and stuff. Some parts were good, but not enough for me. They should have picked someone like Carter Burwell or David Arnold.OH and the ending was the best part
For those that have seen it, you know what I mean

Yeah. Wasn't that ending something? As I said before, I didn't think the score was too sucky. But I think your idea for Carter Burwell doing the score is pretty good.
