For anyone who's seen The Professional, I believe that the single best cue had to be the introduction of Mathilda. So far, I have not heard the soundtrack, but from the movie itself, those two minutes of Mathilda's introduction (which was reprised during the final moments of the movie when Stansfield ambushed Leon, AWESOME) have convinced me that the soundtrack is worth buying. However, the rest of the music that I heard from the movie was too Italian-esque for me and "The Shape of My Heart" was good and fit the scene, it just wasn't too spectacular. I was wondering if anyone has the soundtrack and would like to give their opinions on it.
A side note, it seems that Eric Serra is to Luc Besson what John Williams is to Steven Spielberg (perhaps even George Lucas)....

The soundtrack to Professional (Leon in some countries) is ok. The swat team attack is the best on the cd. The rest.., well nothing much mentioning about. This is the only listenable score Serra has made. Goldeneye and Fifthe Element just simply werenīt good. But thatīs just my opinion.

The Professional? To me it has allways been "Leon". A more fitting title. "The Professional" just seems to
"american" if you know what I mean. Like "The Negotiater". What kind of title is that?!SFT

One of my top five all time favorites. I love every single track. There are two different versions of the soundtrack available. Both have the same in score content, but one of them has a song by Eric Serra tacked on the end, this is the one I own, the song isn't much.If you enjoyed the movie, I see no reason why you shouldn't race out and buy the CD right now...
Just as a side note, anyone who has a Region 2 DVD player should try and hunt down the Intergrale Version of Leon. It runs much longer than the American release and adds a couple of very good scenes.

Just out of curiosity, what is the other name for The Negotiator. That is the only name I have heard so far.

J Guru,The Negotiater does not have another name. It was just an example of how sometimes american movies tend to have somewhat idiotic titles: The Professional, The Terminator, The Postman ect. Instead of finding a title wich fits the movie, the studios and screenplay writers just look at what sounds most "cool". Something modern hollywood composers also tend to do with most of their scores. Fortunately, we still have people like Elfman, Shore and Morricone to give us something good, instead of just that typical mainstream hollywood "sound". (a little side-comment).

I just donīt get it. Why is The Negotiator a stupid name? And how on earth does it not fit the movie????? The whole movie is about two negotiators for crying out loud!!!!! Along with the others (The Postman, etc..).
And also why do you think that other "hollywood" composers arenīt original besides Elfman and some others you mentioned. Elfman sure is original but certainly not in a good way!

J.Guru,Youīve allready made it perfectly clear that you donīt like Elfman, and I donīt dislike you for that, but I do disagree with you. I wonīt go further into that discussion because it wouldīnt lead anywere.
As for the part about movie titles, I just donīt think they fit the movies. For me, a title should say something about the very essense of what the movie is all about, even in a very shallow action movie like The Negotiator. A title doesīnt allways have to be very meningfull in a very obvious way; that would make it just as lame, but for instans something along the lines of Vertigo. Now there we have a title wich fits the movie. Also Edward Scissorhands and Dangerous Liaisons are good. Titles where you get the point of them after youīve seen the movie.SFT
PS: Wich composers DO you like???
