Regarding "The Blair Witch Project," be prepared for a movie that requires no score... literally, I've seen this entire film, and it's excellent. The version I saw was uncut and I believe the ending was being reshot (because frankly, it sucked) - but other than that, it's a film where you sit and watch, all the while you are so caught up in the actual footage (from a handheld video camera) that you aren't even looking for music - actually, to accompany this movie with a score would almost ruin it.

Normally I wouldn't play the devil's advocate where this kind of topic is concerned... gotta trust me on this one.

I agree, because the way it is being promoted. It is made to seem like it is real footage and the directors just put it all together as a documentary.A genius idea in my opinion.A score is not needed nor is it appropriate in a film like this.I got an advance copy of the song soundtrack to the film, from what I understand none of the music was in the film though. It ties in with the story.Inside the case there is a little synopsis of the events in the film and what the music on the cd has to do with the film, making it seem so real.It also explains why on the cd it says Chapter 3 Records instead of Compass 3.It's pretty neat.I can understand why some people when shown the film at test screenings thought the movie was real.

You know what is really screwed up. About a year ago I developed a screenplay based on a similar idea to the Blair Witch Project... but I delt with Aliens and such.

My story had a film crew working in Northern Ontario on a remote location shoot somewhere near Hudson's Bay. All of a sudden *whoosh* they all vanish... yet no one knows until a couple of days later. Out goes a search party and all they find is the equipment laying around. The equipment included 3 film cameras, a bunch of video cameras which were going to be used for a making of video and a tape recorder which was used by the director. All of the film and tapes were still in the machines and what the search party had to do was to take the unedited footage, edit it down and see what happen to the missing people. So, then the story would go to the footage and the sound of the tape recorder and tell you what happened.

Anyway, when I saw that the Blair Witch Project was based on the same idea I nearly shot myself in the face. The same thing happened when Stargate came out.

When I was 8 years old I made up a four comic book set entitled STARGATE where the "bad guys" had developed a transporter in space which abled them to attack planets with out warning. Well, I scraped that idea in 1992.

Just thought I'd let you guys know how ironic this situation is. By the way, I'm still going to develop my own Blair Witch Project. It might not be as good as the professional version but we'll see.

I agree with you, Jeron. A musical score wouldve totally ruined the atmosphere that the movie so perfectly crafts. If a musical score were incorperated it would ruin the sense of the movie being actual footage rather than a production.

Anyway, the movie is great and I highly recommend seeing it when it comes out. I've only seen it on video, so I'm definatly gonna see it on the big screen.

July 16th...in the US anyway. I think it might just be getting a limited release, though. Lets hope for a wide. I think this movie could do phenominal if it gets a good release.

Here's a bit of info, sort of regarding this movie. I saw that the Sci-Fi Channel has something on next Monday night called "Curse of the Blair Witch." I think it's a tie-in to the movie, but I'm not sure.

And since our &^%$)!! cable system doesn't carry the Sci-Fi Channel, I won't know.

I have no idea what movie you guys are talking about so I really canīt comment on it, but wouldīnt it be the ultimate challenge for a composer to score a movie like that?

I had not heard of this movie either, so I searched the web and found a dedicated site. No doubt, it sounds like quite an inventive piece of work. I couldn't help but think of H.P. Lovecraft, a writer who specialized in similar stories.

Not the ultimate challenge, SFT, the ultimate mistake. The movie is shot documentary style, the premise is that 3 college students dissapeared in the woods while shooting a documentary and this is their footage. No score because it is supposed to be reality. A score would kill it.
NP: Two Worlds from Tarzan, great song.

I saw the tie-in on the sci-fi channel last night. It was so cool. About a month ago one of the local theaters got a poster of it and everyone was wondering if it was a true story or not. Later, I read in a movie magazine that it is a mockumentary. The movie is being released in limited theaters on July 16th but is supposed to go wide on the the 30th. I can't wait to see it! I also believe that a score to this movie would ruin the movie. People would realize it wasn't real and that would take all the fun out of it.
