If you can find CUTTHROAT ISLAND I highly recommend that you pick it up. It is a great action score, with lots of fabulous themes. And it is becoming almost impossible to find anywhere, I know a lot of people on this discussion board have been looking for it. BATMAN is also a really good score. Try to listen to BRAVEHEART before you buy it, I bought it without hearing it first, I was counting on the fact that all I heard was good things about it, and I ended up hating that score. I guess it is a good idea to listen to every score before you buy it, and not make blind purchases based on someone elses opinion. I guess that makes my whole response kinda useless

    I'd recommend the following:

Batman (and no, it's not the best score ever composed - sorry)
Braveheart (I did like it, but Audacity's point is well taken)
Great Expectations (You can't go wrong with Doyle).

I'd, go with "Braveheart" or "Batman." Both scores are well written and both rule on CD.

NP: Glory: James Horner (****1/2 /5)--Another really good one, pick it up if you can

Great Expectations. A varied and wonderful listen. It never becomes repetitive. Give it a try.

    Kevin,

Am I intitled to my own opinion or what?

(It IS the best score ever composed)

I can only speak of what I know, so I would suggest Cutthroat Island (HIGHLY!!!!) and Batman. Braveheart is OK, but for me at least, I have to be in a mood to listen to it.

If you want to get Cutthroat Island, try www.intrada.com . That's where I found my copy (after 2 years of trying to find it locally!!!)

If you cant't get all of them, I would say get Cutthroat Island and Batman. The rest are a mixed bag with me. First of all I have never heard of Cinema Paradiso. Braveheart was exactly how Audacity said it was. If you enjoy slow, celtic, and pretty music you will like Braveheart. I don't like Message in a Bottle that much. I have heard good things about Tarzan and Great Expectations. Out of those two I would probably pick Tarzan. Nevertheless Cutthroat and Batman are phenomenal action scores. They will both get your heartracing! SFT is entitled to his opinion. But, if it is the best score, what makes it that? Sorry for springing up a whole new topic. I hope I helped.

My humble opinion: Batman & Tarzan. Arguably, both are classics to me, one is a great score- the other a soundtrack that holds up really well as a soundtrack overall- and the best Disney's done since "The Lion King".

If you don't already have it, may I suggest The Thirteenth Floor (listen before buying)- it is a score worthy of attention. Also, if you haven't had a chance to check out Goldsmith to any extensive content (even if you're not a Trek fan, it's good) Star Trek: The MOtion Picture expanded is the years most incredible reissue.

Try "Cinema Paradiso." This is Ennio Morricone's one of the best in the '80s, and it's so beautiful!
