I don't know if they classify as romantic but two scores that have some of the most beautiful themes I have heard are DRAGONHEART by Randy Edelman and LES MISERABLES by Basil Poledouris.

I think the Star Wars Sagas "force theme" is a very beautiful and moving theme, as is Randy Edelmens Indian in the Cupboard (IMHO).

Ok, these are what I recommend

Batman, Danny Elfman (The only "romantic" cue is "Love Theme" but it is the best love theme ever written).

Edward Scissorhands, Danny Elfman (More sad then romantic really, but I think you will love it).

Black Beauty, Danny Elfman (Probably not "romantic" but it has the most beautyfull main theme ever written, plus a lot of other heartbreaking music.)

Vertigo, Bernard Herrmann (Some of the music in this score is very romantic. The cue "Scene DīAmour" is worth the price of the cd alone).

Out of Africa, John Barry (A must-have if you love romantic music).

Dances with Wolves, John Barry ( Maybe not as romantic as OOA, but it is a very beautyfull score).

First Knight, Jerry Goldsmith (A romantic adventure score with some action music. Nothing special, but the cue "Village Ruins" is absolutely stunning).

Mrs. Doubtfire, Howard Shore (Not romantic but filled with heartwarming music. One of my favorites).

Braveheart, James Horner (This has some very romantic and heartstopping themes too, but if you allready have Titanic, donīt waste your money)

    Hope this helps

If you like romantic/slushy and also dramatic scores then buy Miklos Rozsa scores such as "Eye of the Needle"(very rare and one of my favourite romantic/tragic scores), "Ben Hur", "Spellbound" "Classic film scores..." (The "Red House" suite has got one of the most beautiful themes written)"The Thief of Baghdad","Time after Time". "Spartacus" (Alex North)is also very dramatic with a great "Love theme". E.T.(its a kind of Love Story) has got a wonderful theme and dramatic music. "Classic film scores of Max Steiner"...he wrote some wonderful themes. If you like "The Godfather" then get "The Godfather II" which is even better."Dr. Zhivago" has a very romantic and famous central theme by Maurice Jarre. Anyway thats all I can think of. Gae NP "Empire strikes back"****(out of ****)

Think I'll second all of SFTs mentions, and include Good Will Hunting (if you can find it). It remains on of my fave scores ever.

One thing though, DO BOTHER with Braveheart if you have Titanic, 'tis a far, far superior score. Also, Horner's Field of Dreams is worth a listen.

Get James Horner's "The Land Before Time". Romance was the furthest thing from the movie, but you'd never guess that from the score, which I believe is his best ever.

Another of my favorites is George Fenton's "Ever After," which is very beautiful and romantic.

Also, if you liked "Legends of the Fall," then you might want to check out "Cocoon" as well.

My final recommendation is Michael Nyman's "The Piano." I've loved it since the moment I first heard it.

    James
    NP - Ever After *****

P.S. I'm a big fan of romantic music myself... Can anyone recommend John Barry's "Somewhere in Time"?

Come on you guys, JulietDean is asking for heartstopping romantic music and you come up with something from Star Wars!?
Juliet, you may want to listen to these:
THIN RED LINE by Hans Zimmer: very calm and slow and dramatic and almost hypnotic.
THE SPITFIRE GRILL by James Horner: This is one is awesome, it's calm and light, almost folk-like (somewhat like John Williams' The Rive). Grill is a must have!
THE MAN WITHOUT A FACE by James Horner: a mediocre score considering it is Horner, but it is still better than the works of most other composers. Very slow, but beautiful.
THE ENGLISH PATIENT by Gabriel Yared: with typical romantic strings, piano's and oboe's. It won an Oscar.
THE MIGHTY by Trevor Jones: grand theme, great atmosphere.
There is one more I'd really like to mention, but I can't remember the title. (Duh!) It's a film with Jodie Foster and Richard Gere, music is by Danny Elfman. Gere returns from a war, but Foster can't believe it is her husband. You know... Well, maybe someone already mentioned it, or will mention it later.
    Enjoy!

Patrick Doyle's Great Expectations is a great score- my favorite of the genre. My heart almost skips a beat everytime 'kissing in the rain', the best cue on the cd, is played.
