    Well, what is it?

Mine would have to be SILVERADO, with THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN close behind. However, my favorite single cut from any western is John Williams' overture for THE COWBOYS.

I'd be interested to know others that are particularly exciting.

Yes, Silverado and The Cowboys would be on my list, but probably my favorite would have to he "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly."

Well, a couple of the classic westerns are mentioned already.."The Magnificent Seven", "The Good the Bad and the Ugly", but how about "High Noon" or "Shane"? "Back to the Future III" is another excellent score and my own personal favourites "City Slickers I and II"..superb scores by Marc Shaiman! NP Star Trek II (Star Trek compilation)

High Noon is my favorite Western score. But the choice was tough. There are so many good scores for westerns!

I must agree with Gae that City Slickers 2 is superb. A really enjoyable score from start to finish.
Probably my favorite Western movie/score would be Bandolero! It's Goldsmith and Jimmy Stewart. You can't get much better than that!
I still like the classics- Magnificent Seven, The Good The Bad And the Ugly, but Goldsmith's rip-roarin' western scores, like Rio Conchos, Hour of The Gun, Take A Hard Ride, and Bad Girls, always keep me coming back for more.

My favorite would have to be YOUNG GUNS II by Alan Silvestri. Others I like are:

    WYATT EARP (James Newton Howard)
    CITY SLICKERS II (Mark Shaiman)
    ROUGH RIDERS (Peter Bernstien)

    Audacity
N.P. Tomorrow Never Dies (David Arnold)

Don't forget another classic, Jerome Moss's BIG COUNTRY. Great score that still holds up. And of course the eclectic ONE UPON A TIME IN THE WEST by Ennio Morricone.

Everybody mentioned great scores, but I truly believe that "Magnificent Seven" is the greatest western score ever.

My all-time favorites have all already been mentioned, i.e. The Magnificent Seven, Bad Girls, and Silverado. So I'll mention some my other less-frequent favorites:

    Blazing Saddles (John Morris)
The Sons of Katie Elder (Elmer Bernstein)
    Valley of Gwangi (Jerome Moross)

I have a feely that Wild Wild West will be added to this list soon...

NP - Tombstone (Broughton) **** ---> Another great one!

I love the Spaghetti Western music. Morricone is just great! I believe "Giu' la Testa (Duck, You Sucker!)" and "Once upon a Time in the West" are two of the greatest music ever composed in the history of music! "La Resa dei Conti (The Big Gundown)" is very cool, too! Aside from Morricone, Bacalov's "Django" and "Quien Sabe? (Bullet for the General)," and Ortolani's "Day of Anger" are great!

Terry, if you love Morricone, and I'm sure you have this one, but ONCE UPON A TIME IN AMERICA is also a great score. Great movie too!
