I know its not exactly topical but who cares. I'm dying to know if anyone has this in their collection. It's the only score I have by Russell Garcia and I love it ever since I saw the movie as a kid. O.k. so the films a bit daft compared to the classic novel by H.G. Welles but its still fun. I think the love theme is one of the loveliest simple themes written for a movie, the morlocks music is suitably menacing and exciting and one of my favourite tracks is "The Time Machine" which appears as Rod Taylor shows off his invention. Its very atmospheric and gives off a sense of wonder laced with anticipation/fear of the machines capabilities. It also brings in the first quote of the love theme but is a more heroic rendition and hints at the events to come. O.k. so some of the Morlock music is a bit cliche and repetive at times but there are also some interesting atmospheric tracks when Rod Taylor first finds the Elois. Does anyone else have this soundtrack and what do you think of it? Gae NP Back to the Future Part

Yeah, I have it and think it's great. I also have a copy of Garcia's Fantastica LP from the 50s, a space-age mood album. If you rent or buy Atlantis--The Lost Continent, you'll also get a chance to hear a great Garcia score.

A fine film and a fine score. I patiently waited for this one and had to have it when it was released. (I love George Pal films!)One my favorite listening pleasures is to match this up with War of the Worlds and When Worlds Collide and listen to the different styles. Very cool.

Definetly one of my prefered CD's.
I would like to see other Garcias released.
He wrote an arranging book too.
It's fun to read, even when is a little out of date now.
Is about old combo and big band arranging techniques.

Yes, Garcia is great. It's too bad he didn't do more feature film work. Almost all of what I've heard of his work has been at least very good, and usually excellent.

I fell in love with the music while watching The Time Machine also. I have not been able to find the cd yet though. I didn't know he did Atlantis also, I will have to check that movie out again.

Tell me, is Crescendo's album the original soundtrack recording? I really like this score, but do not have the record.

The cover has the legend "Original Motion Picture Score," implying that it is a re-recording, and I was wondering, if that was true, how the performance stacks up to the film version.

The Cresceno Album is a Re-Recording
that Mr Garcia did because the original tapes
    has been lost.
But the performance is very close to the movie.
And the sound is great too!
    You will love this one.

Also, the CD of TM includes a 7 minutes suite of "ATLANTIS,THE LOST CONTINENT"
I didn't saw this one but the music is
    very impressive.
The treatment is a bit more lyrical that TM.

    Sorry Lou.
I forgot that You'd mentioned Atlantis.
I didn't saw this one (I mean the movie),
    or if I did I don't remember.
Does anyone know other film scores by
    mr Garcia?
Would be interesting to discover other
    works from him!

    Hi Marcelo,

Russell Garcia's film credits are officially:

RADAR SECRET SERVICE (1949) -- Co-written with Richard Hazard

    THE TIME MACHINE (1960)

    ATLANTIS, THE LOST CONTINENT (1961)

THE PAD (AND HOW TO USE IT) (1966)

    THREE GUNS FOR TEXAS (1968)

He also worked in Universal's television division writing for numerous Universal-produced television series in the '50s, '60's and '70s.

Garcia has also done a lot of popular music arranging and conducting. He did a couple of interesting Exotica/Space Age Bachelor Pad albums very much in the style of his good friend and fellow film composer Les Baxter.

It's had to believe this talented composer didn't have access to more film assignments, because he was first rate.

    Thanks Tom,for the precious info.
Definetly Mr Garcia deserves more attention on CD releases.
At least a 2 CD set with suites from his works.

Its a real shame that Garcia didn't have the opportunity to do more film scores, as judging by "The Time Machine" he would have done some great scores. What a shame! Gae NP Batman
