Without people screaming and reading too much into this topic, which old fashioned, unconventional or silly scores do you love?

I love TANGO & CASH by Harold Faltermeyer. I always wanted this score to be released.

    Open the floodgates...

    Steve,

    Awesome topic.

A wacky score that I absolutely love is KUFFS by Harold Faltermeyer. Anyone know if this score was ever released?

A couple of really good unconventional scores are HUDSON HAWK by Micheal Kamen and OSCAR by Elmer Bernstien.

    N.P. Peacemaker, Hans Zimmer

Kuffs was released on Milan CD's a few years ago. I think it's still available -- it's good fun in a cheesy way.

I like the mostly hated "The 5th Element" soundtrack. I also get some unconventional, wierd anime soundtracks like Ghost in the Shell or Wings of Honneamise

I absolutely love Burt Bacharch's score "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" with all its up beat jazzy tunes, although I'm sure a lot of people would think this is really cheesy esp. "Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head". NP Star Wars P.S. I know you guys have already got the music(one way or another) to Phantom Menace but my CD arrives tomorrow....cant wait!!! Gae

I'd have to say "Shaft". Everyone just thinks of the theme, but the rest of the album is pretty good. It really reflects the early 70's feel.

Does "Ecco: Songs of Time" by Spencer Nilsen count? It's the combined scores of two video games that were on Sega CD. The music is all synthesized (with a bit of real percussion). I usually hate synthesized scores, but I really love this one.

I also seem to love everything Richard Band writes, no matter how bad it might actually be. "Shrunken Heads" especially comes to mind.

I have to say that the most embarassing score I own is the 25th Anniversary score CD for The Young and the Restless. It's VERY good music, but for some reason... I dunno... it's just embarassing!

I mentioned this in a different post, but I bought Operation Dumbo Drop for $1.99 yesterday and have listened to the score part about a dozen times since. I mean, regardless of the quality of the score (which is surprisingly good), Operation Dumbo Drop has got to be about as unlikely a name for a CD in my collection as I could imagine. Even the acronym = ODD

NP: Warriors Of Virtue (full score)

Well, I'm not embarrassed about it, but most of you guys seem to hate it. I loved both the movie and the score for SABRINA. Though it isn't the heroic, "Star-Warsy" John Williams we all love, it is quite charming in its own way.

Although I don't own it, I wanted to buy the music to the playstation video game, "The Lost World."
Also, it was kind of embarrassing to buy "The Land Before Time," but the music is so damn good.

I have to say Eric Serra's "The Fifth Element" and "Goldeneye". I don't know why he gets such a bad rap. True, these two scores are rather synthesized but they're still both enjoyable.

BTW, does anyone know if the score to Battlestar Galatica is available anywhere?

Bradley, there is a 4(!)-CD-Set of "Battlestar Galactica" out there. Additionally composer Stu Philips made a rerecording with the Royal Scottish national Orchestra that will be out later this year (on Varese).

I have a few... embarrassing scores that I love to listen to.

Forbidden Zone - Danny Elfman and The Mystic Knights of the Oingo Boingo.

Interview with the Vampire - Elliot Goldenthal

Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire - Joel McNeely (I just love the choral work and the track, Imperial City)

Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman - Jay Struska (sp??)

Wes Craven's New Nightmare, or any other Freddy score...

I could go on, but maybe on a later post.

This would seem to be the logical thread for plugging Poledouris's Free Willy. I'm not embarrased to own the score, but felt slightly self concious as I slid it across the counter at the used CD store...
For those who have listened to the score closely, there are quite a few themes and sub-themes interwoven throughout those 5 tracks. Sometimes movies made for younger audiences can open up really nice scoring opportunities for a composer (e.g. Horner's scores for animated films, McNeely's Iron Will, etc.)

Well, I'd like to say that nobody should ever be embarassed to love film scores of any kind. Buit if I were to think of a few that I loved the heck out of that some people would be embarrased to mention.. here goes, here's my dirt:

    Alan Silvestri - Mouse Hunt
Eric Serra - The Fifth Element
Danny Elfman - Pee Wee's big Adventure
    Bruce Broughton - Homeward Bound

Laugh if you will, but I feel no shame.

    happy listening

I used to love the Hot Shots score. Weird or what. Picked it up for 2 pounds in some bin and developed a strange liking for it.

Also, The Little Princess soundtrack by Patrick Doyle. Embarassing, but great music.

Some excellent videogame soundtracks... Final Fantasy VII+VIII, Sonic CD, Nights, Ridge Racer 4....

I would have to say the Shadow's of the Empire cd. Now don't get me wrong I absolutly love the score. The thing is its hard to explain to people who don't understand what it is. They always give me the..".Its not really Star Wars but there's music to it...what the hell do you mean!?"

Its bad enough explaining to some lunk heads what a Score actually is but trying to explain a Score to a book or a concept is a tough one.

JUst don't know what's embarrassing about HOOK? this is one great Williams and this incredible long battle scene is a lot of fun and tremendously orchestrated.

To me, "poor" scores are those "short and fast" shots like THE ROCK or CRIMSON TIDE which seem mor elike nerving music tapestries.....

I have lots of embarassing scores, but the one that "takes the cake" (is that how you say it?) is definately
Big Top Pee Wee by Danny Elfman...any score featuring a talking pig embarasses me

But I still love the music!

I'm kind of embarressed that I enjoy listening to The Rock.

And it's silly, but I don't care who know that I like it, Face Like a Frog by Elfman.
    That kicks major ass!

As for emberassing purchasing moments, try Honey I Blew Up the Kid, or Supergirl (of course, the checkout person doesn't appreciate just how good the music really is....)

I agree with SFT, Big Top Pee Wee is a fun score. Since the pig is named VANCE my friends love to hear the track that Pee Wee tells Vance to wake up.

That snippet actually used to be on my answering machine I had never met another Vance until I saw Vance the Pig in that film. I knew I wasn't alone

While I'm not over-all embarrased to enjoy any score...I feel shame that I bought The Pagemaster by James Horner. But hey, I only payed like $3.00 for it from the Bargain Bin at Strawberries. The reason for the shame...the lead actor. That's it. Otherwise its a great score.
Also Yellow Submarine by George Martin. I got it when I was a kid and didn't know better.
