I was wondering if anyone had an opinion on this all synthesized Goldsmith score.I have heard nothing but bad things about it over the years, but I have never personally listened to it.CDNOW has some copies of it and I am thinking about purchasing it.But I wanted some info on it first.posted 04-20-1999 03:46 PM PT (US)

Dear Matthew, let me first say that I dont have this score but I do have "Extreme Prejudice" and "Runaway".. also synth scores and from the mid-late 80's like "Criminal Law". I'm assuming that they are similar sounding esp."Extreme Prejudice" which was released a year away from "Criminal Law". Personally, I dont enjoy Goldsmith's "synth" scores as much as his "Sympohonic" scores because to me (and this is just my opinion) they "cheapen" the sound he achieves. Whether this is because he doesn't employ Arthur Morton as much when he composes using his "synths" I dont know? I think Goldsmith composed, arranged and performed all the music to "Runaway" on synths and I feel it suffered because of it. I do sometimes think that the "Old School" of composers like Goldsmith and Williams have tried to keep up with the latest composers who are wizards with synths e.g. Zimmer and struggle when they totally submit themselves to modern technology. Personally, give me the full symphonic sound of Goldsmith or Williams any day! Gae

Extreme Prejudice wasn`t an all synth score, it had the last couple of tracks that were orchestral with synth accompaniment which are magnificent. THe theme in them is very much (in my opinion) like the Under Fire them, very melodic and a bit exotic.
