I once posted a message like this at The Buzz, but no one ever replied. Well, here goes:If everyone here was asked what there favorite action-score was, then probably 75 percent would say The Rock. I know alot of you think itīs great, and Iīm probably starting a fight over this, but I really donīt think itīs very good. I mean, it gave a very good first impression, and it worked very well within the movie, but then, when you hear it by itself, I really think itīs rather boring and repetive. Iīm not trying to start a discussion about why/why not itīs bad, but I was just wondering if anyone has the same opinion as me.

Sorry SFT but I liked it too. It's not my favorite though.

This, from the Elfman freak(just kidding SFT). Thr Rock was the score that started my collection(my parents had some stuff, but nothing major). I loved The Rock(movie and score) and i still listen to it. Yes it is repetitive, but I cannot see it as boring(a matter of taste? hehe). I wont get up in arms about it, you are entitled to your opinion. The Rock is certantly not one of Zimmer's best scores, but it is one of my favs.

Now, my question is this: How did you dig this up if the search engine is no longer available to access?

Ah yes, Jeron great question! As for The Rock, its awsome in the movie, it fit the mood perfectly. However on CD its WAY TOO LONG! about 20 min needs to be chopped out, or filled in with softer music for a better listening experience.

Tim, I have the perfect solution for you. Just make a compilation disc between "The Rock" and "The Man in the Iron Mask" - arranging certain tracks from each would provide a well-rounded listening experience.Jeron

Yeah that would be an interesting project, but of coarse it would no longer be The Rock.

For a second there I thought SFT had come back. Where did he go anyway? As for "The Rock" it was one of my first action scores. I listened to it so much that I got sick of it. I listen to it every now and then, but I perfer my other action scores like MI-2. I am more of a drama score person.--Bri Writer & Film/Video Editor NP: Dinosaur: JNH (*****)

If THE ROCK brings more fans to film music, then more power to it. I personally don't think it's even as good as Zimmer's earlier BLACK RAIN, and find it fantastically self-derivative of all the composers involved, although sometimes entertainingly so (I was amazed to hear riffs on Zimmer's THE POWER OF ONE on the second cue). But for me, it's just typical MV mix-and-match noise, interchangeable with most of the others. Play a random MV action cue to me these days, and I'll be hard-pressed to remember which movie it came from.NP: NICK QUARRY (Jerry Goldsmith, as preserved on FSM's new STRIPPER release)

Jeron asked roughly the equivalent of: quote: Where did you dig up that old fossil?
well, all I did was, you see, to use the "Show Topics From last" dropdown tool bar from the last year or whatever. except I said to show ALL topics.
