*no rating* by fliesandpies on 12/3/2003 You want the Linkin Park song heard in the movie? Don't buy this CD. Linkin Park did not want to put their song on this CD. It's Linkin Park's fault this soundtrack "sucks" because their song is missing, so complain about Linkin Park.
by Wickenstein on 8/31/2003 favorite track: 9 This is an amazing score by Elliot Goldenthal. The opening "Bullet Frenzy" track is incredible in just how visceral and sharp the orchestrations are. The music has an appropriate amount of '70s style writing and still keeps a modern edge. I also have to credit the tracks 3 and 9 for how great they are. This score will please fans of Elliot's earlier Heat and Sphere. What keeps it from the full five stars in my opinion is the understandably short length and the lack of a satisfying Goldenthal finale.
by anonymous on 8/21/2004 favorite track: 1 Goldenthal and Linkin Park have not many things in common, in my opinion... And I think they have different audiences. However, in connection with the film, this album is the ultimate choice.
From the pure musical point of view, it's superior, too, at least in my opinion. A really great demonstration of how a composer can connect modern influences with symphonic writing. It rocks.
by jharris10 on 1/3/2004 favorite track: 4 If you watch this movie's DVD with the director/cast commentaries turned on, you'll find out that the Rolling Stones held out for a LOT of money before they would grant permission for "Shattered" to be used in the movie. It doesn't surprise me that the song (and all the other missing songs) isn't on the soundtrack CD. Or would you rather pay $80 for this thing?
Personally, I like that it's largely held to the orchestral cues. I've seen too many CD's that claim to be the soundtrack, but are instead compilations of pop songs that we hear in a scene's background. This way, we get to hear stuff like Apollo Four Forty's "Time Is Running Out" and Hot Action Cop's tribute to Samuel L. Jackson at the end, which would likely have been left out of a "compilation" CD.
As it is, I am so glad "AK-47 Scherzo" is included. The moment I heard those drums in the theater as that big black SWAT truck pulled up, I thought "This is NOT the SWAT you watched as a kid, Mister..."
by feared on 8/21/2003 favorite track: 4 This is a soundtrack for Goldenthal fans, and also for fans of creative action music writing. The CD has 3 songs, mostly listenable. I'm sure you've never heard Goldenthal writing such great action cues yet. It is a must have album!
by db_colangelo on 8/26/2003 I really liked that Linkin Park song played in the movie and was really disappointed the song is not on the soundtrack. Does anyone happen to know the name of the song?
by mcolpitts on 8/28/2003 The missing Linkin Park song is called "Figure.09" from the CD "Meteora."
by tristram1980 on 9/8/2003 favorite track: 8 The name of the Rolling Stones song is "Shattered." I was a little disappointed that more of the rock songs weren't on the soundtrack. Besides "Shattered," the Linkin Park song, "Just Because" by Jane's Addiction, and Jimmy Hendrix's "Crosstown Traffic."
by dallensoloran on 10/3/2003 favorite track: 1 I was disappointed to see a couple of the good songs missing from this CD. I saw the movie a couple days ago and liked the use of "figure.09" by Linkin Park and "Just Because" by Jane's Addiction... but they aren't on the soundtrack. Bummer. On another note, the orchestral music was awesome. It fits right in with the spirit of the movie and works great just by itself. A good CD, but missing some stuff.
by robbiefillmore on 8/18/2003 favorite track: 13 I was for sure let down that the Linkin Park song wasn't on the CD. I couldnt wait to get the soundtrack just to hear that song. The song while they are doing the plane test is pretty darn good though. The movie ROCKS!!!
by Realness52 on 12/18/2003 favorite track: 13 I think this soundtrack rulez! It's a cool mix of crossover and techno. *no rating* by jessiaro52 on 12/30/2003 Dammit, Linkin Park ain't in the CD? I was so excited when I heard the song I even screamed. This is bull****. I was willing to buy the CD just for the song. Damn!
by Carnality on 1/2/2004 favorite track: 13 Hey if you are complaining that the Linkin Park song isn't on the CD, go buy the Linkin Park CD. I love this soundtrack just as much as the movie. "Time is Running Out" is an amazing track, as well as "Bullet Frenzy."
by easternconfchamps02 on 9/2/2003 favorite track: 8 A great action movie with a great action soundtrack. But I'm sickened that the Linkin Park song isn't on the CD. It's an awesome song ? why the heck wouldn't it be included if it was in the movie (and the best song also)????? Anyway, the stuff on the CD is pretty good. Other comments said there was a missing Rolling Stones song - which one was that? I missed it. Still, Goldenthal did a good job - the music fit the scenes well and is good listening, too. *no rating* by skottkam85 on 1/6/2004 Anyone who bought the soundtrack just to hear the linkin park song "figure.09" should have been more careful to look at the tracklisting of the CD. It's your own fault if you bought the CD and are mad that "figure.09" isn't on there. If you like the song so much, just buy the Meteora CD. I promise, there are a lot more songs that are awesome on that disc. Anyways, I like this soundtrack. It's all good from this end. *no rating* by lpfanatic54669 on 1/7/2004 Hey People. The sound of the music is pretty good. I was also disappointed that "Figure.09" and "Just Because" were not on the soundtrack CD. If you want the two other songs, go buy groups' CDs. I highly recommend the Linkin Park's "Meteora" and also the Jane's Addiction CD. The original score was really good, but without the two songs everyone wants, it isn't worth buying. Therefore, it got a NO SALE from me. *no rating* by phat_tony_97 on 1/10/2004 Thanks for informing me that "Shattered" is not on the CD. That song was the whole reason I wanted it and I will now save myself the 20 bucks.
by nicosuave7 on 1/21/2004 favorite track: 13 The reason I bought this CD (ordered online) was because I wanted the song "Shattered" and thought the other rock songs would make a good workout CD. This is not the "soundtrack."
by SWATboy2 on 1/31/2004 favorite track: 14 The tribute to "Samuel Jackson" is a very nice touch to the movie. It's an excellent way to experience the sound and fury of S.W.A.T.
by TheSheian on 2/2/2004 Goldenthal's score was awesome. It is the best one that I've heard in a long time. I was a little bumed some of the good rock songs weren't on the CD, but I liked the price (instead of the songs being included, but for a forty dollar price tag). The CD was great and a must have for any action-lover's collection.
by BlackSunday141 on 3/1/2004 favorite track: 2 Well, I like a lot of the songs on this soundtrack, but I still think "Don't Shoot Me Baby" is the best. Great work Elliot Goldenthal. :)
by tahayov on 3/12/2004 Well I am very sad. I bought the soundtrack especially to listen to the Linkin Park song, but I didn't find it. For that I hate the rest of the soundtrack.
by Spartan_117 on 3/24/2004 favorite track: 1 This soundtrack absolutely TOTALLY ROCKS!!! If you're looking for the Linkin Park song, it ain't on there. I love techno and if you do too there's plenty. I loved "Bullet Frenzy" but i think the best cue on this is "S.W.A.T. 911" by Danny Saber. Anyone who thinks this soundtrack sucks can go fly a kite, it's great!!! A must have for techno-electronica lovers!
by five_cents_returned on 3/29/2004 favorite track: 8 I was really looking forward to this soundtrack and was disappointed that the three songs I liked, "Figure.09," "Just Because," and "Shattered" aren't on it. Why release a "soundtrack" if it's not the complete soundtrack?
by pogeladler on 4/23/2004 favorite track: 1 This score is absolutely fabulous. Not is it Goldenthal's most "accessible" soundtrack in mind, but it's also one of the more creative ones. The songs on this CD are simply distracting and annoying and are wasting a lot of space for another Goldenthal killer-track, so one half star less than originally intended.
by last_beautiful_girl_58 on 4/30/2004 favorite track: 13 So there are some tracks in the movie not on the CD here, but it is a great CD to take to the gym... and the movie isn't half bad either. "Time is Running Out" may be the best on the CD. *no rating* by the_eskimos on 5/27/2004 I was going to buy this CD just for the Linkin Park song, but I was shcoked to find it's not on there. So instead I bought the Meteora CD and it's excellent, totally worth it! I am glad I bought the Linkin Park CD instead of this.
by crystalb76 on 8/16/2003 favorite track: 13 After seeing the movie I couldn't wait to get the soundtrack. I hate that the Rolling Stones and Linkin Park songs were not on there. "Time is Running Out" (track 13) was the song that I liked when they were doing the SWAT plane test in order to prove to Fuller that they had what it took to be in SWAT. I was expecting more in this soundtrack but I was let down when I first heard the CD. At least the pictures of Colin Farrell help to boost the CD's rating.
by mjcool123 on 8/20/2004 Personally I think this is a great soundtrack CD. And people, stop whining about how "Figure.09" by Linkin Park isn't on the CD. It's not a big deal... like others have said, buy their f***ing CD and stop bitching.
by pianoman on 10/4/2004 I'm completely lost here. This is not the first time I have seen this happen. Elliot Goldenthal is a highly classical symphonic composer in general. He has composed some very elegant classical music, and in fact his entire musical frame of mind, judging from quotes and interviews, is classical. His other side is a COMPLETE contrast as he mixes a couple of authentic instruments into a large array of synthetic gizmos. The score from Heat suffered (or benefited, depending on your opinion) from this same musical situation.
Goldenthal fans, beware. Do not be sidetracked by the good reviews this score is getting. I will only suggest you watch the film first and hear what you are getting. You may prefer this style, but I would advise to check through and through before purchase.
by totorolover2005 on 12/13/2004 This album is brilliant. Thank goodness the Linkin Park song is not on it. Composer Goldenthal mixes Stravinsky, Bartok and his own post-modern style with the 'hip' motifs required for today's modern fusion of sounds.
by craig on 12/30/2004 favorite track: 1 I've read the positive, smart reviews and went out and found this CD. What a great score! Elliot Goldenthal has done a great job on this one, flexing his "action" muscles with some heavy guitar work. "Bullet Frenzy" is one of the best tracks on here. For an opening track, its running time made me especially happy. Some cooler numbers such as "Don't Shoot Me Baby," "Run for Your Life" (great action piece!) and "S.W.A.T. Sticker" made you want more from Mr. Goldenthal. Fun tracks, like "Samuel Jackson" added a nice touch. This is definitely something different to add to you score collection. Even though the Limp Bizkit, Jimi Hendrix or whatever tracks aren't on here, it, in no way, detracts from this score. The Apollo Four Forty track, to me, more then makes up for it. Plus, I don't know why people would buy this for one pop song (without reading the track listing 1st) and then denounce the whole CD in a review, because the pop song wasn't on here. The score alone definitely sets itself apart from other action scores. Elliot Goldenthal fans, rejoice!
by patris_ohara on 1/5/2005 favorite track: 13 This soundtrack is just great!!! It doesn't have some songs, like the Linkin Park and the Rolling Stone ones... what a pity. But it doesn't mean the OST isn't worth. The tracks "Time is Running Out" and "Samuel Jackson" are the better. If you like action music, buy the CD!
by dmhveggie on 8/3/2005 favorite track: 12 I am very pleased that "Time is Running Out" and "Samuel Jackson" are on the CD, though I was hoping for the foreign song that played during the chase in the ghetto neighborhood. It had a good beat. I didn't give a care about "Figure09" since I have the CD of it. Other than that, the composer did a great job and deserves thumbs up.
by azian_flip_1021 on 8/7/2005 I am upset cause the only reason I bought the CD was to listen to the Linkin Park song and it is not there.
by david.aries on 8/19/2005 favorite track: 13 Track 13 and 14 are my favorites, and the score parts are pretty good too, but soundtracks are made for movies, there should be separate soundtrack CDs and score CDs. I do agree that a lot of good songs were cut out on the CD. PLEASE MUSIC COMPANIES, IF YOU ARE READING THIS, INCLUDE EVERY SONG ON THE SOUNDTRACK. This is why I give it a 3 1/2.
by blue98saturn on 11/16/2005 favorite track: 13 I would like to write a review because no matter how you put it, a 'soundtrack' is supposed to be the songs that are from the movie. I bought the CD to hear the songs from the movie because usually a CD that claims to be the soundtrack would include the songs from the movie. For all those out there who say the CD would cost $40.00 if it had all the songs, that's fine because the songs that were played in the movie would be on the CD. This would encourage the party wanting the songs to buy the bands' CDs... but at least if you did pay the $40.00 you would get the songs that were played in the movie... on one CD. add a review
