Whatever people thought about the movie, there can be no doubt that the soundtrack to Speed Racer is one of the year's musical highlights. The music on this CD honours the original music from the TV with faithfully adapting the three note Speed Racer motif, and ends with a terrific, rousing version of the main theme. If this is not the best movie soundtrack of the year, I don't know what is. This is definitely old Hollywood, operatic and melodramatic, complementing the theatrical acting and overblown action of the film. Michael Giacchino is one of the very music composers whose soundtracks I look forward to and so far this is undoubtedly one of his career highlights. I highly recommend this CD as there's not a dull moment on here. The only disappointment is that some music from the movie has been left off the CD, but what is here, is still worth listening to.
